  • Hibbett Sports hits a home run in January

    Hibbett Sports is on track to open at least 80 new stores in 2015 as strong holiday sales and early tax refunds gave the retailer a boost in the January quarter.

    The company posted quarterly earnings of $19.9 million, compared to $16.9 million, in the year-ago period. EPS surged to $0.79 from $0.64. Its sales gained 9.9% to $239.3 million. Same store sales rose 5.4% in the quarter.

  • French retailer digitally transforms with Ipanema

    Paris - Nature & Découvertes, a French-based European retailer with 83 stores across France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany and Switzerland, has partnered with Ipanema Technologies as part of an enterprise-wide, 24-month digital transformation. With Ipanema’s help, the retailer successfully reduced application response time by 50%, and reduced network costs and OPEX costs by 50% and 10%, respectively.
     

  • Ohio Valley Mall grows its tenant lineup

    St. Clairsville, Ohio -- Ulta Beauty and Sincerely Yogurt will both open at Ohio Valley Mall this year. Sincerely Yogurt will debut first, opening a 1,275-sq.-ft. location late spring 2015. Ulta Beauty will open a 9,700-sq.-ft. store near Sears by early fall.  The construction of the new Ulta will introduce a new, exterior doorway providing direct access from the mall parking area.

    Owned by Cafaro Company, the recently renovated Ohio Valley Mall is located on I-70, Exit 218-Mall Road, in St. Clairsville, Ohio.  
     

  • L.L. Bean to open at least 75 stores by 2020

    Freeport, Maine – L.L. Bean Inc. intends to almost triple its store count by 2020. In an internal company memo distributed Wednesday, March 11, L.L. Bean told employees it will open four stores in 2015 and at least 100 by 2020.

    Currently, L.L. Bean operates 26 stores and 10 outlets in the U.S. The retailer does not have any stores west of Colorado, but plans to open new stores in the Pacific Northwest. All new stores will be full-price locations. The memo was signed by CEO Chris McCormack, who plans to retire in 2016.

  • Tiger Direct (mostly) abandoning brick-and-mortar operations

    Consumer electronics retailer Tiger Direct has decided that brick-and-mortar is overrated.

    The retailer is closing all but three of its 34 physical stores in the U.S. and internationally in order to focus exclusively on e-commerce.

    An IT products and solutions provider, the company has made the strategic decision to accelerate its business-to-business and public sector customer focus, but mostly via its website.

  • Simon names 10 disruptive finalists in disruptive technologies competition

    New York – Retail real estate firm Simon, in partnership with fashion and retail event company Decoded Fashion, has announced the 10 finalists in its "Future of Retail: Meet the Disruptors" competition. The competition's mission is to discover startups in retail or retail-related technologies whose innovations will enhance the shopping experience for future generations.
