  • Toys ‘R’ Us going on 30-hour shopping marathon

    The nation’s largest specialty toy retailer isn’t worried about any so-called Thanksgiving backlash.   Toys “R” Us announced plans to open its doors at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving — and keep them open (in nearly all locations) for 30 hours straight, closing them at 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25. It’s the fourth consecutive year the chain has opened at 5 p.m. on the holiday.   
  • Here's how Dollar General plans to win holiday shoppers

    Dollar General is rolling out extended store hours, exclusive digital coupons and online-only discounts to woo holiday shoppers this year.   The retailer has announced that its holiday season plans will begin this week with a special discount for military-affiliated shoppers on Friday, Veterans Day.  
  • Study: Retailers overconfident in endpoint security efforts

    More retailers are eager to ward off far-reaching cyber-attacks, yet too many companies are ill-equipped to quickly detect a breach.   This sobering detail was revealed in a new study from Tripwire. The study tapped 763 IT professionals from various industries, including 100 participants from the retail sector. The report measures the confidence and efficacy among the professionals in regard to seven key security controls that must be in place to quickly detect a cyber-attack in progress.  
  • Mall of America 'Debuts' a pop-up collection

    On Nov. 16, the Mall of America will open the doors on a revolving collection of pop-up shops that will come and go throughout the year.   Branded as Debut, the 2,500-sq.-ft. space will be kicked off by an eclectic selection of nine brands including Askov Finlayson, West Elm Local, Woolrich, Pomegranate, and Laurel Way by Pam Mondale.  
  • Starbucks ends its fiscal year on a high note

    Starbucks Corp. is feeling its oats.   The coffee giant topped estimates for its fourth quarter and gave a positive view for its current fiscal year.   Starbucks’ consolidated net revenue grew 16% to $5.8 billion in its fourth quarter, which was better than expected.   
  • Winn Dixie, Tampa

    Grocery retailer Winn-Dixie opened the second ever location of its next-generation store concept, in the Hyde Park section of Tampa, Florida.  
  • Saks Fifth Avenue continues brick-and-mortar expansion

    Saks Fifth Avenue has opened its third location in Miami, and seventh location year to date, at the just opened Brickell City Centre in the city’s financial district.
