  • Kohl’s and First Data team on private brand credit-card processing

    Atlanta -- First Data Corp. said Thursday that it has entered into an agreement with Kohl’s Department Stores to provide payment processing services for the company’s private brand credit-card accounts.

    The multi-year agreement calls for First Data to provide Kohl’s with credit-card processing, customer analytics, risk-management services and automated customer service workflow tools.

    Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

  • Lowe's names successor to departing CIO

    Mooresville, N.C. -- Lowe's Cos. said Thursday that executive VP and chief information officer Steven Stone is leaving the company in order to pursue other interests.

    Lowe’s said it has named current executive VP store operations and Lowes.com Michael Brown as Stone’s successor.

    Brown will report to chairman and CEO Robert Niblock.

  • Denny’s makes Cree LEDs preferred lighting standard

    Durham, N.C. -- Denny’s Corp. has chosen LED lights from Cree as the preferred lighting standard for all its new and remodeled stores across the United States. Cree’s six-inch downlights are being specified in various applications, including dining areas and restrooms.

  • Starbucks expands mobile payment to all U.S. stores

    Seattle -- Starbucks announced the launch of mobile payment in all U.S. company-operated stores, allowing customers to pay for in-store purchases with select smart phones. The company said test markets in Seattle, Northern California, New York and more than 1,000 Starbucks in domestic Target stores have successfully used the program.

    Atlanta -- RedPrairie Corp., a productivity solutions provider, announced that it has finalized the acquisition of SofTechnics, a leading provider of integrated retail enterprise solutions that has been serving customers for more than 20 years.     

  • Cabela’s launches new site on Fry’s platform

    Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Fry, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Micros Systems, announced that Cabela’s has launched its newly designed website on Fry’s Open Commerce Platform.

  • Epson thermal printer helps Friendly’s Express increase order accuracy

    Long Beach, Calif.  -- Epson America announced that Friendly's Express, a new fast-casual concept from Friendly Ice Cream Corp., is using Epson's TM-T88 ReStick thermal printer with MAXStick liner-free, biodegradable and recyclable labels to identify orders in all five of its locations. By installing an intelligent label interface into the Epson ReStick printer, Friendly's Express was able to configure its point-of-sale (POS) systems to print individual item labels for only its carryout orders.
