  • Dick's Q1 sales up, beats EPS expectations

    PITTSBURGH — Dick's Sporting Goods reported consolidated net income for the first quarter ended April 30 of $37.5 million, or 30 cents per diluted share, exceeding the company's earnings expectations provided on March 8 of 26 cents to 28 cents per diluted share.  For the first quarter ended May 1, 2010, the company reported consolidated net income of $26.2 million, or 22 cents per diluted share.

  • Urban Outfitters Q1 net income dips; on track to open 50 to 55 stores

    Philadelphia -- Urban Outfitters reported Monday that profit for the first quarter declined more than expected, posting net income of $39 million compared with $53 million a year earlier.

    However, revenue topped Wall Street's estimates, as the operator of Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People and Terrain banners saw sales rise 9% to $524 million. Same-store sales fell 5%. But direct-to-consumer (catalogs and online) same-store sales increased 15%.

  • True Value names new CIO

    CHICAGO — True Value has announced that a new chief information officer has joined the company. Rosaelee Hermens will serve as True Value’s new CIO, in addition to being an officer of the company, effective last Monday, May 9.

  • Trademark Property hired to lease, manage Shops of Saddle Creek

    Fort Worth, Texas -- Trademark Property Co. announced Monday that it has been engaged by an institutional owner to lease and manage the Shops at Saddle Creek, a 148,000-sq.-ft. lifestyle center in Germantown, Tenn.

    Trademark will also be evaluating the feasibility of a major expansion on adjacent land controlled by Saddle Creek’s owner.

  • Saks Fifth Avenue’s Off 5th to up store count in 2011

    New York City -- Saks’ Off 5th outlet division announced Tuesday that it plans to open four new stores this year – Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Northbrook, Ill., and Charleston, S.C.

    Additionally, the Off 5th arm said it will open a new store at the Market at Town Center in Sugar Land, Texas, that will replace its store located at The Fountains in Stafford, Texas.
     

  • PetroChina rolls out Retalix StorePoint

    Ra-anana, Israel -- Retalix announced Tuesday that PetroChina has completed a rollout of its StorePoint POS and StorePoint Fuel solutions to more than 16,000 convenience store and fuel locations across China.

    The Retalix software rollout was part of a larger IT hardware and software upgrade for PetroChina, helping the retailer introduce greater automation and control over its store-level and enterprise-level operations.

  • Big Names – Small(er) Stores

    I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but it seems like you can’t pick up a paper or click a mouse lately without reading about some big box retailer rolling out its smaller store format. Target has its new 60,000-square-foot CityTarget concept, while Walmart has Walmart Neighborhood Market and Walmart Express stores. It seems like everyone is downsizing.

  • Survey: Tablets ideal for shopping

    New York City -- Retailers have plenty of challenges to overcome when it comes to shoppers using smartphones for shopping, with awkward usability (49%), credit-card security (36%) and connection speeds (31%) topping the list, according to a survey by the e-tailing group.
