  • Glidden brings ready-to-go paint testers to Walmart

    CLEVELAND — Glidden announced that on May 21 to 22 it will hold demonstrations at nearly 1,000 Walmart stores nationwide to showcase its exclusive ready-to-go paint testers with built-in brush attached to the lid. The two-ounce paint testers are available in all 306 colors in the Glidden Brilliance Collection palette. 

  • JCPenney to increase Energy Star certifications to 400 stores

    Plano, Texas -- JCPenney Co. announced that it will up its participation in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program to 400 stores by the end of 2013. Energy Star certification is awarded to buildings that rank within the top 25% of similar commercial buildings nationwide by meeting strict energy performance levels set by the EPA.

    JCPenney has a companywide goal to reduce facility energy use 20% by 2015.

  • Dollar Tree continues strong earnings streak

    CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Dollar Tree reported 34.4% year-over-year EPS growth for the first quarter of 2011. Earnings per diluted share for the first quarter were 82 cents, compared with earnings per diluted share of 49 cents reported for the quarter ended May 1, 2010, which included a non-recurring, non-cash charge of $26.3 million relating to a retail inventory accounting change in the first quarter 2010.

  • Stein Mart profit edges up in Q1; plans increased POS spending

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Stein Mart reported Thursday that net income for the first quarter rose to $15.9 million from $14.3 million in 2010.

    Sales edged up 0.8% to $303.5 million, and same-store sales increased 1.5%.

    The retailer said it is increasing its plan for capital expenditure in 2011 by $5 million to a range of $30 to $35 million. Stein Mart said the increased spending is for POS hardware in all stores toward increasing operational efficiency.

  • Dollar Tree profit soars 59%, raises forecast

    Chesapeake, Va. -- Dollar Tree reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended April 30 rose 59% to $101 million, compared with $63.6 million in the year-ago period. The 2010 figure included a charge of $26.3 million for a retail inventory accounting change.

    The retailer raised its sales and profit forecast for the rest of the year.

    Revenue increased more than 14% to $1.55 billion, beating Wall Street expectations. Same-store sales rose 7.1%.

  • Nordstrom Rack to open at Westfield Plaza Bonita

    Seattle --Nordstrom announced it will open a 42,222-sq.-ft. Nordstrom Rack at Westfield Plaza Bonita shopping center in National City, Calif. The new store will open on Oct. 27.

    The new Nordstrom Rack will be the company's third Rack store in the greater San Diego area, joining Westfield Mission Valley in San Diego and Grand Plaza in San Marcos.
