  • City Sports opens 21st store

    Silver Spring, Md. -- City Sports has opened its 21st store, in downtown Silver Spring, Md. It is the retailer’s second location in the metro D.C. area to open in the past year.

    The store features an interactive electronics section that offers shoppers the use of in-store iPads to access information about products and the ability to wear-test headphones.

  • Expansion-Minded Uniqlo Aims Big

    From dazzling LCD/LED video displays to rotating mannequins to staircases with color-changing LED lights, Uniqlo’s Manhattan flagship is massive in scope and bold in design.

    The three-level, 89,000-sq.-ft. store is the largest Uniqlo outlet in the world. It’s a big store for a company with big ambitions: Uniqlo parent Fast Retailing Co., the world’s fourth-largest apparel retailer, is targeting $50 billion in global sales by 2020.

    Specialty bedding retailer Mattress Firm has reduced its utility costs by more than $1 million by using an automated energy management system to control its HVAC and lighting.

  • AT&T opens ‘Retail Innovation Center’

    Chicago -- AT&T announced the opening of the AT&T Retail Innovation Center in Arlington Heights, Ill.

    The 10,400 sq.-ft. space — more than twice the size of a conventional AT&T store layout — is designed to showcase the company’s most innovative products and serve to gather customers’ feedback on new retail concepts — all designed to help shape the ultimate customer experience across AT&T’s more than 2,300 stores nationwide.

  • CVS adds news feature to mobile website

    Woonsocket, R.I. -- CVS/pharmacy announced it has enhanced shopping and prescription refill functionality for its mobile site (m.cvs.com), as well as iPhone and Android apps for on-the-go customers.

    Shoppers can now use mobile devices to manage their ExtraCare Rewards accounts, scan and send prescription refills and even order prints of their favorite photos.

    WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS/pharmacy today announced enhanced shopping and prescription refill functionality for its mobile site, located at m.CVS.com, as well as iPhone and Android apps, enabling shoppers to use mobile devices to manage their ExtraCare Rewards accounts, scan and send prescription refills, and order photo prints from CVS Photo Centers.

    Customers accessing CVS/pharmacy's mobile website can now take advantage of several features of the ExtraCare Rewards Program. This new functionality lets shoppers:

  • Toys 'R' Us launches expands mobile offerings

    Wayne, N.J. -- Toys “R” Us said Friday that it has expanded its mobile offerings for the holiday season, providing an enhanced shopping experience for on-the-go shoppers.

    In addition, the retailer said it has made updates made to its iPhone and Android experience, as well as announced partnerships with eBay, Google and shopkick to help customers use their mobile devices to locate product, pay for purchases and source discounts.
