    Lands' End has named Becky Gebhardt as SVP, chief creative officer. Gebhardt was actually VP of creative at the company from 2004 to 2007.

    The announcement comes a day after the company, which was recently divested by Sears, named Steven Rado as SVP, chief marketing officer.

  • Drugstore chain Duane Reade testing iBeacon technology

    New York -- The Duane Reade drugstore chain has launched an iBeacon pilot in several stores in the New York area. The test was announced by Tim McCauley, senior director of mobile commerce at Walgreens, parent company of Duane Reade, during a presentation at the Mcommerce Summit in New York City.

    “In Duane Reade, we now have iBeacon in our Duane Reade app, and we have a ten-store pilot in this market going on right now,” said McCauley

    Verizon Wireless has embarked on an ambitious initiative to transform the customer experience across its portfolio of 1,700 company-owned stores. The new strategy emphasizes lifestyle over product and promotes in-store engagement and interactivity.

    “We are transforming the focus of our stores from selling devices to enabling customers to discover all that wireless technology can do for their mobile lifestyles,” said Domenico D’Ambrosio, executive director, national retail operations, Verizon Wireless.

  • Build-a-Bear Workshop expands to Turkey

    St. Louis - Build-A-Bear Workshop has reached an agreement with Horizon Toy Company of Turkey as a new international franchisee. The first Build-A-Bear Workshop store in Turkey is expected to open in Mall of Istanbul in June 2014.

    With the store opening in Turkey, Build-A-Bear Workshop will now operate in 15 countries through franchisees. Those countries include Australia, Bahrain, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Norway, Oman, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Thailand and United Arab Emirates.

  • Blackhawk Canada enables smartphone card payments

    Pleasanton, Calif. - Prepaid payment network Blackhawk Network (Canada) Ltd. has launched its digital platform in the Canadian market, by offering Blackhawk's gift card products to Rogers' customers in the new Suretap wallet application. The application allows customers to safely store eligible payment and gift cards on their smartphones and make purchases directly from the phone by holding it up to contactless payment terminals.

    Nearly two months after Sears set it free, Lands' End has named Steven Rado as SVP, chief marketing officer.

    Rado will guide a team of 50 professionals across marketing operations including consumer insights, forecasting and analytics, catalog, digital marketing, customer acquisition, e-commerce, public relations and advertising.

    San Diego -- Best Buy is updating its home theater departments with in-store Sony shops. Beginning in May, Sony Electronics will start opening “Sony Experience at Best Buy” shops at approximately 350 Best Buy locations nationwide.
