  • Report: CVS to open new location on Vegas strip

    A CVS store is expected to open on the Las Vegas strip in May, according to a report by Vegas Inc. published Tuesday. It will be CVS' fourth location to Walgreens' five, the report noted. "They've really been popping up quickly," Ray Germain, associate VP investments with Marcus & Millichap told Vegas Inc. "It's crazy what you'll pay for a little packet of Advil. (Vegas Inc.)

  • Wayfair enters the flooring business

    Home Depot, Lowe’s and Lumber Liquidators have a new online competitor to cope with after Wayfair.com announced ambitious plans to sell and install flooring.

    Wayfair Inc. is launching a feature called the One-Stop Flooring Shop, designed to offer customers a single destination for managing and completing home flooring projects. One-Stop Flooring Shop includes a broad assortment flooring materials and tiles. In addition, the service provides access to a dedicated flooring concierge team and a national network of pre-screened contractors.

  • Sticker shock: E-commerce fulfillment costs rising

    Recent rate increases for shipping services by UPS and FedEx and the pending Jan. 17 rate increase for U.S. Postal Service (USPS) shipping services, are challenging businesses -- especially small retailers and e-retailers -- to look for new and innovative solutions to optimize their shipping operations, according to Pitney Bowes.

    • On December 28, 2015, the rates for UPS Ground services increased an average net 4.9%.

  • Warm weather hits Bon-Ton sales

    The Bon-Ton Stores says its holiday sales were negatively affected by unseasonably warm weather in November.

    The company announced that its same-store sales for the nine-week holiday period ended Jan. 2 decreased 1.6%. Total sales for the combined months of November and December were $784.4 million, a decrease of 1.5% from sales of $796.4 million in the prior year nine-week holiday period.

    Costco hopes to sell more high-definition televisions and merchandise in clubs after going live with its revamped Costco TV Network.

    The warehouse club leader deployed 4K technology to its existing in-warehouse TV network in a move designed to boost sales of televisions and help brands who use the network’s promotional capabilities better connect with shoppers. Powered by PRN, a division of Stratacache and longtime Costco partner, the TV network is in all 487 of the retailer’s U.S. clubs.

  • Northgate González Markets purchases property for store relocation

    Newport Beach, Calif. -- X Team International announced that partner Strategic Retail Advisors negotiated the purchase of a 104,423-sq.-ft. property at La Habra Towne Centre located in La Habra, California, on behalf of Northgate Gonzalez Markets.

    La Habra Town Centre is situated on 9.2 acres and is currently home to CVS, Petco and Jack in the Box. Nelson Wheeler and Blaine Bush of SRA represented Northgate Gonzalez Markets. Jones Lang LaSalle represented the seller.
