    Home Depot’s CEO Craig Menear will take over as chairman of the board when Frank Blake retires Feb. 2.

    Menear, formerly head of Home Depot’s retail operations, was named Blake’s successor as CEO in August, and the company said at the time that Blake would remain as chairman. Menear took over the CEO role at the beginning of November.

  • Roundy’s to open five stores in 2015; expects operating loss

    Milwaukee – Roundy’s Inc. expects to open five new stores in fiscal 2015, including one in the first quarter. However, the grocery chain also said it expects earnings per diluted share from continuing operations of flat to -$0.05 in the first quarter and a net loss of $0.07 to $0.18 per share in the fiscal year.

  • Billing plans lift Best Buy sales 3.4%

    Solid sales of televisions and mobile phones in stores and online drove better than expected top line growth at Best Buy during the holidays with details on profitability yet to come.

    The company said same-store sales grew 3.4% in the United States over the holidays (Nov.-Dec.) as it sold more large-screen TVs and mobile phones.

  • Report: Home Depot data breach class action suit begins Jan. 16

    Atlanta – A class action lawsuit compiling more than 30 of the 44 lawsuits that have been filed against The Home Depot Inc. in relation to its 2014 data breach is scheduled to begin Friday, Jan. 16 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta.

    According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Chief Judge Thomas W. Thrash Jr. is telling attorneys for both sides to pursue a “just, speedy and inexpensive” resolution.

  • Dollar General still fighting for Family Dollar

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General is still fighting to acquire Family Dollar, the retailer stated on Thursday, noting that it is in ongoing discussions with the Federal Trade Commission. "The FTC has reached no final conclusion regarding the number of divestitures that would be required by a Dollar General/Family Dollar combination," Dollar General stated. "Dollar General has also had discussions with various potential buyers who have expressed interest in acquiring stores that may be required to be divested."
