    San Diego - Shari's Berries, a national gifting brand that delivers strawberries and sweets, is launching Shari's Berries App for iPhone and iPod touch. The Shari's Berries App allows smartphone-based orders for delivery as early as the next day.

    Designed by its subsidiary Sincerely, the Shari's Berries App features a simplified shopping experience and quick checkouts. It also reminds users of birthdays and holidays based on an algorithm that incorporates data from their Facebook network and device contacts.

    Lighting plays a critical role in retail, and is rapidly evolving to meet changing regulations and customer needs. Dr. Laura Prestwood Thompson, director of the TCU Center for Lighting Education, Texas Christian University, discussed how stores and restaurants in 2025 will light their interiors and looked at the technologies and trends that will impact retail lighting during the SPECS workshop session, “Lighting 2025.”

    “The quality of light is key,” Thompson said. “You create an aesthetic for your brand that impacts the customer experience.”

  • Natural Grocers net income climbs; plans six new stores

    Lakewood, Colo. – Net income climbed 24.3% at Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage Inc. in the second quarter of fiscal 2014, rising to $4 million from $3.21 million in the same quarter the prior fiscal year. For the remainder of the current fiscal year, Natural Grocers plans to open six new stores and remodel one.

    Framingham, Mass. - Staples is launching its new Staples EasyTech Total Support plan, which provides consumers and small businesses with comprehensive technology services for both their new and old PCs, including upgrades, maintenance and installations. The service builds on Staples’ EasyTech program that launched in 2007, and helps customers make more happen with their devices.
