  • Mobile apps deliver for eBay in Q1

    SAN JOSE, Calif. — Global commerce platform and payments leader eBay reported double digit growth in revenue and net income for the first quarter ended March 31.

    eBay reported a revenue increase of 14% to $3.7 billion, and its net income, adjusted to exclude non-recurring expenses, increased 14% to $829 million, compared to the same period in 2012.

  • Chiquita goes bananas for cloud technology

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Chiquita Brands will look to national IT infrastructure and cloud solutions provider Peak 10 Inc. for global operations support. 

    After relocating its corporate headquarters from Cincinnati to Charlotte, N.C., Chiquita has chosen to house its business-critical information, including shipping, accounts payable and receivable, production and distribution data for its global operations, within Peak 10’s new 14,000-sq.-ft.-facility in North Charlotte.

  • Diamond Foods turns to Transplace

    Third party logistics provider Transplace was selected by Diamond Foods to improve operational efficiencies and supply chain visibility.

    Diamond Food wills use Transplace’s Transportation Management System and gain access to the company’s web-based technology and business intelligence analytics to help the company optimize its transportation network, view shipments in real-time, reduce transportation costs and support long-term business goals.

  • SymphonyIRI reverts to original name in rebranding move

    SymphonyIRI Group president and CEO Andrew Appel announced this week that the company will revert to its original name, Information Resources, or IRI, as part of a rebranding strategy.

    “Our rebranding signifies our promise to continue providing ingenious solutions and capabilities for our clients to enable growth in a highly fragmented, competitive and complex market,” Appel said “We are well positioned to be the catalyst that enables CPG and retail companies to take advantage of new opportunities.”

  • Ikea plugs-in Maryland’s largest rooftop solar energy system

    Perryville, Md. -- Ikea said Tuesday it has plugged-in the solar energy system installed at its distribution center in Perryville, Md.
     
    The 768,972-sq.-ft. PV array consists of a 2,674.9-kW system, built with 18,576 panels, and is the state’s largest rooftop array.

    The Ikea distribution center will produce approximately 3,397,178 kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 2,397 tons of carbon dioxide, eliminating the emissions of 499 cars or powering 359 homes yearly.  
     

  • Deloitte Consumer Spending Index holds steady

    New York -- The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index ticked down slightly in March, but has remained relatively steady with a reading over 4.0 the past five months. The Index tracks consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending.
