  • Walgreens misses Q3 profit estimate, withdraws guidance

    Deerfield Park, Ill. – A 16% year-over-year jump in third quarter profit still missed Wall Street estimates, causing Walgreen Co. to withdraw previously issued fiscal 2016 guidance. During the third quarter of fiscal 2015, Walgreen reported net earnings of $722 million, up 16% from $624 million in the same period the previous fiscal year.

  • Former IBM exec Craig Hayman to head eBay enterprise

    The commerce technology and marketing arm of eBay has a new president. Craig Hayman, a 15-year veteran of IBM, has been named the head of eBay enterprise.

    “Technology continues to have a significant impact on the overall commerce landscape,” eBay’s President and CEO John Donahoe said. “Craig’s experience will enhance our ability to serve retailers and brands in this online to offine world.”

  • Former Rosetta Stone VP joins Recurly as tech chief

    Subscription billing management company Recurly has appointed Renato Mascardo, former VP of engineering at Rosetta Stone, as its new chief technology officer.

    “We are delighted to have Renato join our leadership team,” said Dan Burkhart, CEO for Recurly. “He brings a passion software innovation and a pride in world-class execution which is exciting for a company at our stage of growth.”

  • flexReceipts taps new marketing chief

    Digital receipts company flexReceipts has named Megan Licursi as its chief marketing officer.

    In her new position, Licursi will oversee the company’s strategic vision and the implementation of its marketing approach. Previously, Licursi has helped national brands create and execute marketing programs, and will bring that to flexreceipts, which uses a software for clients to include promotions and social media links in electronic receipts they send to customers.

    Plano, Texas -- J. C. Penney Company announced today that it has closed its new $2.35 billion asset-based senior secured credit facility, comprised of a $1.850 billion revolving line of credit and a $500 million term loan.

  • Survey: Online grocery experience needs improvement

    London – Three-quarters of online shoppers have shopped online for groceries and 40% of these do so on a regular basis, but only one-third of grocery shoppers rate their experience as “easy.” And only one-in-five (19%) of those surveyed by EDigitalResearch are delighted with their online grocery experience.

  • Clear Demand, 360pi partner on real-time price management

    Scottsdale, Ariz. – Big Data pricing solution vendor Clear Demand is partnering with competitive price intelligence provider 360pi. Under this joint initiative, 360pi’s real-time price intelligence is fed into Clear Demand’s pricing platform, which in turn alerts retailers to competitive price changes, including compliance with product-line and pricing rules, and helps manage competitive price strategy.

  • Icahn demands Family Dollar sale

    Matthews, N.C. – Billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn, who recently engaged in a high-profile effort to force EBay to separate its PayPal business, is now demanding that Family Dollar sell itself. Icahn, who recently disclosed he has a 9.4% stake in the discount retailer, sent an open letter to Family Dollar chairman Howard Levine saying that it is imperative the company be put up for sale immediately.
