  • Food Lion expands N.C. DC

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Delhaize America announced that it is expanding its Food Lion distribution center in Dunn, N.C.

    The company said the distribution center, which opened in 1987 and services 264 Food Lion stores in the area, will increase storage space by 54,000 sq. ft. to accomodate more than 4,000 refrigerated and frozen foods.

  • CB Richard Ellis to provide real estate services to UPS

    Los Angeles -- CB Richard Ellis Group said Wednesday that the United States Postal Service (USPS) has awarded CB Richard Ellis a contract to serve as its exclusive provider of strategic corporate real estate solutions nationally.

    CB Richard Ellis will provide transaction management services for USPS, including leasing and disposition. USPS’s portfolio consists of approximately 35,000 facilities, totaling over 300 million sq. ft.

  • Woolworth Mexico’s deployment of RedPrairie solution wins logistics award

    Atlanta -- RedPrairie Corp. announced that Grupo Comercial Control, parent company to Woolworth Mexico and other well-known retail brands, won Mexico's annual National Award for Logistics for its successful implementation of a WMS integral strategy based on the RedPrairie Warehouse Management solution.

  • Cal-Maine Foods names VP operations

    JACKSON, Miss. — Cal-Maine Foods announced that the company has named Todd Walters VP operations, effective July 11. Walters will have responsibility for all of Cal-Maine Foods’ production and processing facilities located in Texas.

  • Sheetz to add DC in North Carolina to support expansion

    New York City -- Convenience-store operator Sheetz will open a distribution facility by 2014 to support its expansion plans and increasing number of stores in the state, according to a report by The News & Observer. The distribution facility also will serve stores in southern Virginia and West Virginia, the report said.

    Sheetz currently has 394 stores, with more than half in Pennsylvania. With a goal of 500 stores in three years, the chain is targeting North Carolina and West Virginia its top markets for expansion.

  • PriceSmart profit, sales up in Q3

    San Diego -- Warehouse club operator PriceSmart reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended May 31 rose to $16.3 million, compared with $12 million in the year-ago period.

    Sales surged 23.6% to $421.6 million, from $341.2 million.

    The company had previously announced it acquired 131,524 sq. ft. of land in Cali, Colombia, upon which it will build its second warehouse club in Colombia.
     

  • Plug Power to supply GenDrive fuel cells to Kroger

    Latham, N.Y. -- Plug Power announced that it will supply 161 GenDrive fuel cells to Kroger’s food distribution center in Compton, Calif. Kroger will use the renewable energy source to power its fleet of electric lift trucks. Because GenDrive is fueled with hydrogen, the only byproducts created through the electrochemical energy-conversion process are heat and water.
