Sears Explores Drive-Thru Concept

1/16/2009

Chicago Sears Holdings Corp. said it plans to open a warehouse-style concept store this summer in Joliet, Ill., that will be called MyGofer. The concept will give shoppers the opportunity to buy online and pick up their purchases in the store or at a drive-through portal, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Sears plans to close an existing 85,000-sq.-ft. Kmart location in Joliet on Feb. 15 and then begin work in March to turn the building into MyGofer, the report said.

The report also said that about 80% of the store will be devoted to storing merchandise, while remaining 20% will house a showroom in what one Joliet official described as a 21st Century version of Service Merchandise, the catalog showroom store popular in the 1970s and 1980s where stock was kept in a warehouse and shoppers picked up their purchases with a claim ticket.
