Rite Aid to Close Long Island DC

1/21/2009

Camp Hill, Pa. Rite Aid Corp. said Wednesday it is closing a distribution center in Bohemia, N.Y.

Rite Aid said 60 people work at the facility. They have been notified and will receive severance pay after the closing, which is expected in mid to late May. The 255,000-sq.-ft. center serves 125 stores, and is one of six distribution facilities Rite Aid acquired in June 2007 when the company bought 1,850 Brooks Eckerd stores.

Larger distribution centers in Philadelphia and Rome, N.Y., will replace the Bohemia facility.

Rite Aid says it planned to look for cost-cutting opportunities in distribution once the Brooks Eckerd acquisition was complete.
