  • Ace Hardware to build Import Re-Distribution Center in Virginia

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- Ace Hardware Corp. has selected Suffolk, Va., for the company’s new 336,000-sq.-ft. Import Re-Distribution Center (RDC). Construction is scheduled for completion May 1, 2012.

    The facility will allow the company to reduce import and logistics costs and provide an even higher level of service to East Coast retailers, making it possible for Ace stores to more effectively respond to consumer needs dictated by hurricanes and other weather emergencies in the region.

  • Walmart named to Washington state green list

    SEATTLE — Walmart announced that ihas been selected as one of the Washington Green 50 list by Seattle Business Magazine as part of its annual Green Washington Awards competition. Walmart was a finalist in the retail category.

  • Target inks supplier deal for Canadian stores

    STELLARTON, NS  and MINNEAPOLIS — Details for Target's entry into Canada continue to fall into place as the retailer announced last week a long-term wholesale distribution agreement with Sobeys Inc.

    Beginning in early 2013, Sobeys will supply Target’s food and grocery requirements for frozen, dairy, and dry grocery products, inclusive of both national brand and Target’s private label brands.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods opening stores in New York and Georgia

    Pittsburgh -- Dick’s Sporting Goods announced it is opening two stores this week, in Yonkers, N.Y., and Norcross, Ga.

    The Yonkers location will be the retailer's 32nd store in the state of New York and their 458th nationwide. The Norcross location will be the retailer's fifteenth store in the state of Georgia and their 459th nationwide.

     

  • Target puts final Canadian plans in motion

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target's entry into Canada is nearing completion, as the company Friday finalized its real estate transaction with Zellers Inc. with the selection of 84 additional Zellers leases, bringing the total number of leases selected, including an initial group of 105 leases selected in May, to 189. From this second group, Target has acquired the leasehold interests for 29 locations, the vast majority of which will open as Target stores beginning in 2013. The remaining leases have been or will be sold to other Canadian retailers or back to landlords.

  • SRS Real Estate appoints Denver exec

    Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners has announced the hiring of Brian Hollenback as a VP in the Denver office. 

    Hollenback has been involved in over 2,000,000 sq. ft. of ground-up retail developments and has completed over 125 pad transactions throughout the Colorado market. He also has represented numerous national and regional retail and restaurants concepts as well as a variety of shopping center owners and developers in leasing their shopping centers.
     

  • Target finalizes its real estate in Canada; signs deal with Sobeys

    Minneapolis -- Target Corp. said Friday that it has finalized its real estate transaction with Canadian retailer Zellers with the selection of 84 additional Zellers leases. Target Canada will open between 125 and 135 stores, most by 2013. The discounter also entered into a deal with Sobey’s, Canada’s second largest supermarket chain, to supply its stores with food.

  • Citi Trends pulls back on expansion

    Savannah, Ga. -- Citi Trends said Friday that it would cut jobs and open fewer stores than it planned in an effort to save money after losing $10 million in the second quarter. The company said it would open new stores only where it had already made commitments, resulting in about 55 new locations in 2011 and five in 2012.

    The company also said it would cut 40 jobs at its stores, distribution centers and corporate offices in Savannah, Ga.
