  • Not just a lot of hot air: Walmart boosts sustainable rep with wind power

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart has unveiled its first onsite large-scale wind turbine pilot project at  its distribution center in Red Bluff, Calif. The wind turbine, expected to be operational by this fall, will provide roughly one megawatt of power or 15% to 20% of the distribution center's yearly electrical use.

  • Nebraska Furniture Mart selects Logility Voyager Solutions to support growth

    Atlanta -- Supply chain solution provider Logility said Tuesday that Omaha, Neb., home furnishings retailer Nebraska Furniture Mart has selected Logility Voyager Solutions to help the company plan for and manage its growth into new markets.

    To meet its goal of 75% growth by 2015, Nebraska Furniture Mart has embarked on an aggressive supply chain transformation project alongside a business improvement effort to streamline operations and accelerate the flow of information and products.

    Matthews, N.C. -- Harris Teeter plans to expand its presence in existing markets, the company said in its third-quarter earnings release.

  • Daffy’s to liquidate; JEMB Realty Corp. to purchase leases

    New York -- An affiliate of Manhattan-based real estate company Jemb Realty Corp. has agreed to purchase the leases and certain intellectual assets of Daffy’s Inc. for $43 million, Bloomberg reported. The deal is subject to bankruptcy court approval.

    Daffy’s filed for Chapter 11 protection listing assets of $60.2 million and debt of $70.5 million as of July 1. The chain operates 19 stores, with the majority in the New York City metro area.

  • Report: Aurora Capital Associates interested in Daffys real estate

    New York -- Aurora Capital Associates, a real estate investment firm, is reported to be acquiring New York-based discount retailer Daffys with plans to sublease its stores, according to Crain’s New York.

    Daffy’s, which operates 19 stores, in July announced plans to liquidate by October.

    The company has several prime real estate sites, eight of which are located in prime shopping area of Manhattan.

    Real Estate Weekly first reported the news concerning Daffy’s possible acquisition.

  • NRF leads fight against unfair trucking regulations

    Washington, D.C. -- The National Retail Federation and its National Council of Chain Restaurants division joined a coalition of manufacturers, shippers and transportation providers to file an amicus brief before the U.S. Court of Appeals opposing new federal trucking regulations on drivers’ hours-of-service, stating the regulations were arbitrary and capricious.
