  • Kroger details progress on energy conservation and waste reduction

    Cincinnati -- The Kroger Co. has saved more than 2.34 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, which equals 1.47 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, in 2011, according to the chain’s sixth annual Sustainability Report.

  • Supervalu to shutter 60 stores

    MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu is closing approximately 60 stores as the company moves forward with its turnaround plans. The company will shutter 38 stores in its retail food reporting segment and 22 Save-A-Lot locations. The majority of the stores are expected to close before Dec. 1, the end of the company’s fiscal 2013 third quarter.

    CINCINNATI — Kroger has released its sixth annual sustainability report.

  • Pet Supplies Plus to open three new retail locations

    Conshohocken, Pa. -- Pet Supplies Plus has signed leases for three new stores in the Delaware Valley, totaling more than 26,000 sq. ft.

    An 8,700-sq.-ft. store will open at Greentree Square Shopping Center in Marlton, N.J.; a 9,800-sq.-ft. store will open at Doylestown Pointe in Doylestown, Pa.; and a7,650-sq.-ft. location will open at The Shops at Blue Bell in Blue Bell, Pa.

    All three stores are slated to open prior to year’s end.

  • Cabela's continues to expand, will open fourth location in Canada

    SIDNEY, Neb. -- Cabela's Inc. said that it plans to build a 50,000-sq.-ft. store in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. It will be the anchor tenant in the new Grasslands Shopping Centre being developed in Regina.

    The new store, which will be the retailer's fourth location in Canada, is expected to in fall 2013 or spring 2014. The company will open a store in Rogers, Ark., on Aug. 30, and Union Gap, Wash., on Oct. 4.

  • Great Lakes Brewing Company selects transportation management provider

    DALLAS — Transplace, a leading provider of transportation management services and logistics technology, announced that Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) has selected the third party logistics (3PL) provider to handle its North American transportation management activities.

  • Meijer takes action against hunger

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer will double match every customer's $10 Simply Give donation made Sept. 2 to 8 in support of Hunger Action Month.

    The Simply Give Week double match is part of a $1 million donation to the retailer's 2012 Simply Give program, which aims to replenish the shelves of nearly 200 food pantries in its five-state region each campaign.

  • Domino’s Pizza joins EPA SmartWay program

    Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Domino's Pizza announced that it joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership, a collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and industry that provides a framework to assess the environmental and energy efficiency of goods movement supply chains.

    Domino's Pizza will contribute to the Partnership's savings of 1.5 billion gallons of fuel, $3.6 billion in fuel costs, 14.7 MMT of carbon dioxide, 215,000 tons of oxides of nitrogen and 8,000 tons of particulate matter.
