  • Amazon to hire 2,500 nationwide to staff fulfillment centers

    Seattle -- Amazon said it is hiring more than 2,500 full-time workers at order-fulfillment centers across the country.

    "Today, we're excited to announce 2,500 full-time jobs, bringing new employment opportunities to local communities across the country," said Mike Roth, Amazon’s VP of North America operations, in a company statement.

  • Retail imports expected to drop in February

    Washington, D.C. -- Import volume at the nation’s major retail container ports is expected to drop 8.4% in February from the same time last year as the shipping cycle reaches its slowest month of the year, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

  • Battle of the distribution centers

    Toward the end of January, the Wall Street Journal reported that Wal-Mart has given itself two years to match the online service and delivery speed of Amazon.com.

    In an interview at the World Economic forum in Davos, Switzerland, Neil Ashe, Wal-Mart’s global e-commerce CEO told Journal reporter Dennis Berman was building new warehouses across the country dedicated to handling online orders.

  • Home Depot bolsters online business with new direct fulfillment center

    The Home Depot has opened a new direct fulfillment center (DFC) in the Locust Grove suburb of Atlanta.

    It is the first of three new DFCs the company will open across the U.S. in the next two years, adding more than 3 million sq. ft. and approximately 1,000 jobs to its supply chain. The new distribution centers will increase the number of orders the company can ship the day they are received, increasing the speed of delivery for HomeDepot.com orders.

  • Home Depot opens direct fulfillment center to support online

    Atlanta -- The Home Depot announced the opening of its new direct fulfillment center, in Locust Grove, Ga. It is the first of three such facilities the company will open across the United States over the next two years, adding more than three million square feet and approximately 1,000 jobs to its supply chain.

  • New Mid-America leases in Flint and Canton, Mich.

    West Bloomfield, Mich. -- Mid-America Real Estate — Michigan has announced two new leases. DXL Men’s Apparel has taken a 10,514-sq.-ft. store on Miller Road in Flint, Mich. Mid-America represented DXL in the transaction

    Jersey Mike’s has leased a 1,400-sq.-ft. location in the Canton Corners Shopping Center in Canton, Mich. Mid-America represented the landlord, Canton Corners Co., in the negotiations.
