  • Ready Pac Foods appoints chief supply chain officer

    Ready Pac Foods has hired Peter Laport as the company’s SVP, chief supply chain officer.  

    "After working with Peter for many years at Nestlé, I knew that he was the perfect fit for Ready Pac," said CEO Tony Sarsam.   • Retail imports to grow 6.1% in April

    Washington, D.C. -- Import volume at major U.S. retail container ports is expected to increase 6.1% in April 2014, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Hackett Associates. U.S. ports followed by Global Port Tracker handled 1.26 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) in February 2014, the latest month for which after-the-fact numbers are available.

  • Sears names senior VP, president supply chain

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings announced that William Hutchinson will join the company as senior VP and president, supply chain. Hutchinson, who most recently served as VP of global fulfillment and logistics for Dell, succeeds Raj Penkar who has led the company's supply chain business unit since 2011. Penkar will retire from Sears Holdings on May 31.

    In his new role with the company, Hutchinson will be accountable for all aspects of the company's supply chain, including distribution, transportation, customs compliance and global sourcing.

    Former Dell and Best Buy executive William Hutchinson is joining Sears Holdings at SVP and president of supply chain.

    Hutchinson spent seven years with Dell and most recently served as vp of global fulfillment and logistics for the Round Rock, Texas-based company. In his new role Hutchinson will be accountable for all aspects of the company's supply chain, including distribution, transportation, customs compliance and global sourcing. He is filling a role previously held by Raj Penkar, who will retire from the company on May 31.

  • Casey’s streamlines DC throughput to support growth

    Ankeny, Iowa -- Casey’s General Stores has selected Softeon’s warehouse managements ystem (WMS), as well as its load planning, yard management, and labor management applications, to improve efficiency and accuracy of its DC operations and drive additional throughput from existing DCs to enable them to support addition of new retail stores in the same physical footprint.
