    Just days after announcing that it would be opening several "pick-up points" across Canada, Ikea says it plans to open a massive distribution center in Ontario in October.

  • Shoe Carnival celebrates profits; will open 18-19 stores

    Evansville, Ind. – Shoe Carnival Inc. saw net income and sales increase during the first quarter of fiscal 2015 as selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses and cost of sales rose at a slower pace than revenues.

    Net income totaled $10.4 million, up 8% from $9.2 million the same period a year earlier.

    Net sales increased 7% to $252.77 million, from $235.77 million. Same-store sales climbed 3%.

  • Amazon.com adds new possibilities for Prime Now

    Retailers in urban areas where Amazon.com is rolling out its Prime Now delivery service soon may be able to piggyback on the e-commerce innovator’s supply chain prowess to offer one-hour delivery.

    In Manhattan, where Amazon.com launched Prime Now earlier this year, the company has added products from select local merchants to the tens of thousands of items it already promises to deliver within one hour.

  • Amazon partners with Auburn University on new RFID Lab

    Seattle - Auburn University's new RFID Lab held its grand opening May 21, during which Amazon.com announced a joint project with the university to explore the business case for the implementation of RFID within the Amazon supply chain. Amazon has utilized RFID technology in its fulfillment centers, where customer orders are picked from shelves, moved on conveyers and loaded onto trucks for rapid shipping and delivery.

  • Ikea to support Canada growth with distribution center

    Mississauga, Canada – Ikea plans to open a 397,000-sq.-ft. distribution center in Mississauga Ontario in October. The new facility will fulfil customer orders from the four existing Toronto-area stores and e-commerce purchases, as well as support growth plans for Ikea Canada to meet customers in new and existing markets.

    The location will bring Ikea closer to the customer, which the retailer hopes will allow for an improved logistical setup enabling an increased range offer and shorter lead-times while contributing to sustainability goals.

  • Target hits the bulleye in first quarter

    Target’s efforts to revamp its product assortment are apparently paying off for the company, which reported a nearly 52% surge in first quarter profit on strong sales of fashion, home and beauty products.

    The company posted a profit of $635 million for the three months that ended May 2. Same store sales rose 2.3%, beating forecasts. Revenue rose 2.8% to $17 billion. Online sales rose nearly 38%.

  • Nordstrom Rack planned for La Jolia, California

    Seattle -- Nordstrom plans to further expand its San Diego County presence with the addition of a Nordstrom Rack at The Shops at La Jolla Village in La Jolla, California.

    The approximately 32,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2016. The property is owned by Alecta Real Estate USA, LLC. When it opens, it will be the fifth Nordstrom Rack in the San Diego area and about one mile west of Nordstrom at University Towne Centre.
