Dick’s wins logistics award at Momentum event

5/26/2015

Shoppers like spending money with Dick’s Sporting Goods and the companies that transport goods to its stores and distribution centers think the retailer is pretty special too.

Dick’s was selected by trucking companies and other carriers from among 36 top tier retailers, grocers, manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers for the distinction of “Shipper Partner of the Year.” The award was presented at supply chain and logistics leader Manhattan Associates annual Momentum conference in Phoenix. To determine this year’s winner, carriers from across the United States voted on a variety of factors related to the performance and efficiency of the shipper, based on nominations from customers of Manhattan’s Transportation Management Solution.

“Dick’s Sporting Goods exemplifies many carrier-friendly practices that make it a true transportation partner,” said Lauren Howard, president, truckload operations, Celadon Trucking. “Dick’s understands transportation from both the shipper's and the carrier's perspective, values our driver needs, and employs supportive strategies that help carriers meet service requirements. We are proud to partner with a company that truly is collaborative in its approach with carriers.”

The award was presented to Dick’s Senior Vice President of Supply Chain, George Giacobbe, on May 19 at the Momentum customer conference held at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix.

“Dick’s Sporting Goods is honored to be voted Shipper Partner of the Year by the carrier community and Manhattan Associates,” Giacobbe said. “As our company grows, we continue to leverage innovative logistics solutions and partnerships among industry leaders. The (Manhattan) Transportation Management System provides the tools necessary to manage the complex supply chain and ultimately support our goal of exceeding each customer’s expectations.”
