  • Ross Dress for Less expands in Florida

    Ross Dress for Less will open a new store in West Pembroke Pines, Florida, on Oct. 10.

    The 26,000-sq.-ft. store is located in Westfork Plaza.

    With this new location, Ross will operate 153 stores in Florida. The opening is part of the retailer’s 2015 expansion program, totaling approximately 70 new locations during the year.

  • Regional chain enters same-day delivery arena

    Same-day delivery is a growing phenomenon, but so far has been the province of major national retailers.

    Renton, Washington-based McLendon Hardware, which operates seven stores in Washington, is making a big move to same-day delivery for big items.

  • Walmart Canada makes online shopping easier

    Walmart Canada is looking to make online shopping as convenient as possible by partnering with 7-Eleven Canada Inc. to expand Walmart Canada’s Grab & Go locker network in six 7-Eleven stores in the greater Toronto area.

    The service offers customers using Walmart.ca a free shipping option where they can pick up their order, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at no cost. This partnership expands on Walmart Canada’s current Grab & Go Locker service, which offers free shipping to 45 Grab & Go lockers in the GTA.

  • Ross Dress for Less opens new North Carolina store Oct. 10

    Ross Dress for Less will open a new store in Elizabeth City, North Carolina on Oct. 10. The 18,000-sq.-ft.store is located in Tanglewood Pavilions.

    The opening is part of the retailer’s 2015 expansion program, totaling approximately 70 new locations during the year.

  • Lowe's helps communities devastated by flooding

    Lowe's is coming to the aid of the communities it serves with a donation to help provide relief in the wake of massive flooding in the Southeast.

    The retailer plans to donate $500,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief and work to provide both immediate and long-term support to local communities in the Southeast.

    Walmart Canada is joining forces with a C-store giant to make online shopping as convenient as possible.

    In a pilot project, Walmart’s Canadian subsidiary is partnering with 7-Eleven Canada to expand Walmart Canada’s Grab & Go locker network to six 7-Eleven stores in the greater Toronto area.

  • Haggen finds another buyer for its stores

    Gelson's Markets is joining Smart & Final on the acquisition of some Haggen properties in Southern California.

    Gelson's, a regional supermarket chain operating in Southern California, announced it is bidding on eight Haggen locations across five counties: Los Angeles County (Santa Monica), Orange County (Laguna Beach, Ladera Ranch), Riverside County (Rancho Mirage), San Diego County (Carlsbad, Del Mar, Pacific Beach) and Ventura County (Thousand Oaks).

  • Smart & Final to buy 28 stores from Haggen

    The bankrupt Haggen supermarket chain is following through on its promise to unload some of its California locations as the company looks to refocus its operations on 37 stores in the Pacific Northwest.
