  • Macy's, Bloomindales expand same-day delivery service

    Macy's and Bloomingdales are racing to join other retailers that are turning their stores into mini-fulfillment centers in an effort to challenge Amazon.com.

    The department store company announced it is expanding same-day delivery service to nine additional markets beginning this month. Both Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s are partnering with third-party delivery service Deliv to offer same-day delivery on products purchased online at macys.com, Bloomingdales.com, and on both brands’ mobile-enabled websites.

    Plano, Texas -- J.C. Penney nabbed a key executive from Home Depot and also one from Target Corp. as it seeks to maximize the power, reach and integration of its omnichannel efforts.
     
    The department store retailer named Michael Amend, former VP of online, mobile and omnichannel for Home Depot, to the position of executive VP of omnichannel effective immediately. He fills a position previously held by Mike Rodgers who left the company.

  • JCP in omnichannel overdrive with Target, Home Depot hires

    J.C. Penney just poached two key executives to maximize the power, reach and integration of its omnichannel efforts.

    The department store retailer named Michael Amend, former vice president of online, mobile and omnichannel for Home Depot, to the position of executive vice president of omnichannel effective immediately. He fills a position previously held by Mike Rodgers who left the company. Additionally, Mike Robbins, formerly the senior vice president of global supply chain for Target, will be joining the J.C. Penney as senior vice president of supply chain effective Aug. 10.

    DIYGarageDoorParts.com, a company that is devoted to helping people fix their own garage doors, has just expanded their selection of garage door parts. Thanks to newly-added parts, which are available through the website, people who want to repair their garage door now have even more options.

  • O'really, auto parts chain in high gear

    O'Reilly Automotive reported another record-breaking quarter of financial results as the retailer revs up plans to expand its distribution network and store footprint.

    The auto parts retailer reported that sales for the second quarter ended June 30 increased $188 million, or 10%, to $2.04 billion from $1.85 billion for the same period one year ago. Same store sales increased 7.2%.

    This year, O’Reilly plans to add a net 205 stores, compared with 200 stores in 2014. In the latest period, it opened 34 stores.

  • Benjamin Moore opens new DC

    Montvale, N.J. -- Benjamin Moore has opened a 90,000-sq.-ft. state-of the-art distribution space in the Landover Logistics Center in Landover, Maryland.

    The new LEED-certified (Silver) center will accommodate expansion and enhance service in the fast-growing Mid-Atlantic and Southeast markets, as well as support distribution of an expanded line of Benjamin Moore & Co. latex products.

    The company, whose second quarter sales beat estimates, has carved out a lucrative niche in casual athletic footwear and in kids’ athletic footwear. It is in expansion mode, with plans to open 125 to 135 company-owned and third-party-owned stores later this year.
