  • Canada’s Hudson’s Bay to buy Saks

    NEW YORK — Hudson’s Bay Company has reached a deal to buy Saks Inc. in a deal that is expected to bring the luxury department store company to Canada. The Canadian retail conglomerate, which which operates Lord & Taylor in the United States and Hudson Bay in Canada, will purchase Saks for a total of about $2.9 billion. Purchase price includes $16 per share of Saks as well as the assumption of Saks’ debt.

  • Regency to build new Miami center

    MIAMI — Regency Centers Corp. has announced the development of Fontainebleau Square, a 320,339-sq.-ft. grocery anchored community center, the company’s first ground-up retail development in Dade County.

    Fontainebleau Square has signed Publix Sabor (45,600 sq. ft.) and Target (139,751 sq. ft.) as anchors. Construction starts this month, with anchor openings expected as early as October 2014.

    TORONTO -- MI9 announced that Samsonite Company Stores, the North American retail and ecommerce division of Samsonite, has selected MI9 to provide its omnichannel retail platform.

  • Americans' egg consumption on the rise

    The nation’s largest egg producer, Cal-Maine Foods, said it sold 243.3 million dozen eggs in its fourth quarter ended June 1, and moved closer to surpassing the 1 billion dozen threshold for the full fiscal year.

    The 243.3 million dozen eggs sold in the fourth quarter was an increase of 6.3% from 228.8 million dozen sold in the fourth quarter the prior year. The full year total of 948.5 million dozen was a 7.3% increase from 884.3 million dozen the prior year.

  • Saks to be acquired by Hudson's Bay Co.

    NEW YORK — Hudson’s Bay Company has reached a deal to buy Saks Inc. Purchase price includes $16 per share of Saks as well as the assumption of Saks’ debt.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts opens two resort stores

    CANTON, Mass. — Dunkin’ Donuts recently opened two new stores at Great Wolf Lodge resorts in Michigan and Virginia. These are the second and third restaurants to open from a franchising agreement between Dunkin' Donuts and Great Wolf Resorts, which debuted its first Dunkin' Donuts location in 2009 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, N.C.

  • Amazon to hire 7,000 workers in DCs, customer service

    Seattle -- Amazon said it will hire more than 5,000 full-time workers in its U.S. fulfillment centers and 2,000 customer service staff, including part-time and seasonal employees, to meet growing customer demand.

    The company said it will immediately begin hiring at 17 fulfillment centers for tasks that include picking items from warehouse shelves, packing them for delivery and operating new technology installed to streamline operations.

  • Amazon adds jobs, expands DC capacity

    SEATTLE — As Amazon prepares one of its distribution warehouses for a visit from President Barack Obama, and the economy continues on its path toward recovery, the Internet retailer has announced plans to create more than 5,000 new full-time jobs in its U.S. fulfillment network to meet growing customer demand.
