  • Changes to Tumi’s board of directors

    Tumi Holdings has named Joseph R. Gromek as chairman of the company’s board of directors. Gromek, who joined the board in April 2012, succeeds Richard P. Hanson, who has stepped down as chairman.

    Until his retirement in February 2012, Gromek served as president and CEO of the Warnaco Group since April 2003, and as a member of the company’s board. From 1996 to 2002, Gromek served as president and CEO of Brooks Brothers. During the past 25 years, Gromek has also held senior management positions with Saks Fifth Avenue, Limited Brands and Ann Taylor Stores.

    Hingham, Mass. – Building #19, the New England closeout retailer, which recently shut its doors after declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy, is planning to reopen at least a few stores as specialty closeout rug retailers under the banner of “The Rug Dept.”

  • Newegg Marketplace starts holiday shopping season right

    Newegg, a leading electronics-focused e-retailer in the United States, is leveraging its record-breaking Black November sales for its Marketplace Division to drive additional sales this holiday season.

    Newegg Marketplace reported sales of 109% year-over-year, making this the second consecutive year of triple-digit growth.

    Newegg has also added Cooking.com, eBags.com, Griffin Technology, Overstock.com, Samy's Camera, Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us to its Marketplace this year.

  • NRF: Retail imports up for December, full year 2013

    Washington, D.C. -- Import volume at the nation’s major retail container ports is expected to grow 1.8% in December, compared to the same month last year, and the year should end with an increase of 2.3% from 2012. According to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates, U.S. ports followed by Global Port Tracker handled 1.43 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) in October, the latest month for which after-the-fact numbers are available.

    The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has turned to Velcro Industries to help it enhance packaging for its Scotts EZ Seed grass seed with Velcro-brand PRESS-LOK closure technology.

    The leading marketer of branded consumer lawn and garden products and Velcro Industries worked with manufacturer Peel Plastics Products, a recognized leader in product and process innovation, to integrate Velcro Industries' PRESS-LOK closure technology into Scotts' grass seed package.
