  • Sears Canada CEO to leave by year-end; search on for new chief

    Toronto -- Sears Canada Inc. announced that Douglas C. Campbell, president and CEO, intends to resign and return to the United States by yearend for “personal family” issues. Campbell, formerly COO of Sears Canada, was appointed to the top spot in September 2013, after former head Calvin McDonald quit.  

    Campbell was charged with turning around a struggling chain, which has seen eight years of falling sales.

  • Pineville Commercial Realty buys North Carolina shopping center

    Northbrook, Ill. - Pine Tree Commercial Realty LLC has acquired Riverbend Marketplace, a regional shopping center located in Asheville, North Carolina, in partnership with Wanxiang America Real Estate Group. The 142,617-sq.-ft. shopping center is shadow-anchored by Walmart, anchored by Kohl’s and Petsmart, and features 110,715-sq.-ft. of national best-in-class retailers.

  • Tory Burch to have co-CEOs

    Tory Burch, an upscale women’s apparel and accessories company, has appointed former Ralph Lauren executive Roger Farah co-CEO, sharing the title with founder and current CEO Tory Burch, who will remain chairperson.

  • Hhgregg seeks 450 holiday associates

    Indianapolis – Hhgregg plans to hire more than 450 home electronics and home appliances sales associates this holiday season to support its 228 stores. Hhgregg is accepting applications for holiday positions starting Sept. 25, and plans to have all new hires on board and in stores by mid-October.

    The retailer is seeking to hire both full-time and part-time associates, and though the positions are immediately needed for the holiday shopping season, all new hires will be considered for ongoing employment.

     

  • Alliance Data: Halloween spending growing across categories

    New York -- More than half of consumers will spend more for the Halloween holiday than they’ll spend for either Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, according to the 2014 Halloween Happenings Survey by Alliance Data Retail Services, which manages credit card programs.

    Some highlights include:

    • 67% of consumers buy Halloween candy that they like, in case they want to enjoy a few treats before the tricksters ring the bell.

  • Tory Burch names retail vet Roger Farah as co-CEO

    New York -- Upscale women’s apparel and accessories company Tory Burch named longtime retail veteran Roger Farah co-CEO as the fast-growing brand looks to expand into a global player. He will share the title with founder and current CEO Tory Burch who will remain chairman. Burch is also the company's largest shareholder.

  • Ross opens new California store Oct. 11

    Dublin, Calif. - Ross Dress for Less will open a new store in Northern California on Oct. 11. The store is located in Rocklin Commons in Rocklin, a suburb in the Sacramento area.  

    This new opening is part of the retailer’s 2014 expansion program, totaling approximately 75 new locations during the year. Together, Ross Dress for Less and DD’s Discounts currently operate over 1,300 off-price apparel and home fashion stores in 33 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.

    Oklahoma City, Okla. – In a Sept. 23 webinar hosted by Chain Store Age and sponsored by Microsoft Dynamics and Junction Solutions, marital arts training equipment retailer Century Martial Arts explained how by using a Microsoft Dynamics AX business intelligence platform, it is able to better track trends and predict future performance.
