  • Chapel Hills Mall unveils 'Where to Shop' campaign

    Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Addison, Texas-based Coyote Management, L.P. and Garrison Investment Group, through their affiliates, acquired Chapel Hills Mall on June 1, and since have made changes that include a new ad campaign themed “Where to Shop.”

    Launched July 1, the campaign offers the message: ‘Shop here because we have what you need’ and is being communicated through radio, television, newspaper, direct mail, in-mall signage, wall graphics and interior and exterior banners.

  • Shoppers are impacted by rising grocery prices and shrinking package sizes

    New York City -- A survey released Tuesday by Deloitte found that 87.7% of shoppers believe prices in food stores are escalating and 74% say the size of some packaged goods is smaller.

    According to Deloitte’s new “2011 Consumer Food and Product Insight Survey,” thanks to higher food prices and rising gas prices, 72.7% of consumers are making fewer trips to the grocery store to save money and 40.8% are purchasing fewer items overall.

    I’m not shedding any tears over the demise of Borders and neither is anyone else in the retail industry. It’s just business.

    There are always a few sentimental customers who turn up with a choice quote or two in the formulaic media eulogies that appear whenever a retailer goes under, but those customers will just have to find somewhere else to sip coffee and read books for free.

  • Kmart entices back-to-college shoppers with layaway deal

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart announced that as part of its back-to-school campaign it would offer college students and their parents the ability to reserve purchases by making four payments throughout the summer and allowing students to pick up items at a Kmart store near their campus.

    The promotion is part of the retailer's "Epic Year, Epic You!" campaign seeks to meet customers' evolving BTS needs.

  • Food Lion, customers raise more than $100K for Children's Miracle Network Hospital

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion stores located along the coasts of North Carolina and South Carolina raised more than $100,000 during the retailer's "Thriller on the Griller at the Beach" events.

    The events, which took place from June 17 to July 3 at 14 stores, raised $101,149, Food Lion said. The company said that the funds raised surpassed the retailer's goal by nearly $15,000.

  • Have baby, will save at A&P

    MONTVALE, N.J. — Grocer A&P announced on Monday the launch of a new program, Live Better Baby Club, which is designed to help customers save on their baby-related purchases.

    Members of the Live Better Baby Club will receive an automatic 10% discount on baby products every time they shop at A&P, Pathmark, Superfresh, Waldbaum's and The Food Emporium stores.

  • Big Lots completes Liquidation World purchase, makes exec appointments

    Columbus, Ohio -- Big Lots announced Tuesday that it has completed its acquisition of Brantford, Ontario-based Liquidation World, representing Big Lots’ first foothold outside of the United States.

    Closeout retailer Liquidation World currently operates 89 stores in Canada.

  • Safeway raises more than $10.1 million for prostate cancer research

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Monday announced that its monthlong prostate cancer campaign raised nearly $10.1 million as part of the company’s ongoing effort to fund research geared toward finding a cure for the leading cancer affecting men.
