  • OfficeMax enlists sales help of RadioShack in new pilot

    NAPERVILLE, Ill. — OfficeMax has announced that it has entered into an agreement with RadioShack whereby RadioShack employees will offer mobile products and services, including prepaid and postpaid wireless products, accessories and service plans, as well as assist in selling OfficeMax consumer electronics products and services, in approximately 15 to 20 OfficeMax stores in the San Francisco market. The pilot program will begin in January 2012. 

  • HD's Menear points to merchandise highlights

    ATLANTA — Atlanta-based Home Depot's wind-and-storm aided sales effort in the third-quarter presented several category highlights, according to EVP merchandising Craig Menear.

    The company's strong third-quarter performance, which included a 13% net earnings increase and comp-store sales of positive 4.2%, included strength "in the core of the store" and growth in average ticket and transactions.

  • Saks announces iPad app

    New York City -- Saks Fifth Avenue announced the availability of its shopping application for the iPad. The free app, available worldwide from the Apple App Store, is an entirely shoppable app, and customers can create wishlists that can be shared through email, Facebook, and/or Twitter.

  • Daffy’s opens in Times Square

    New York City -- Off-price retailer Daffy's on Wednesday is opening a nineteenth location, in New York City’s Times Square.

    The new 17,000-sq.-ft. store, located at 218 West 44th Street in the former New York Times building.

  • TJX Q3 net income rises 15%, maintains profit outlook

    Framingham, Mass. -- TJX Cos. reported Tuesday that profit for the quarter ended Oct. 29 rose 15% to $406.5 million, from $372.3 million a year earlier.

    Sales increased 5% to $5.79 billion from $5.53 billion, but missed analysts’ expected $5.84 billion. Same-store sales rose 3%.

    During the quarter, the retailer increased its store count by a net of 52 stores and increased square footage by 1% over the same period last year.
     

  • Staples soldiers on in Q3

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Profits at Staples grew 13% to $326 million and earnings per share grew 18% to 47 cents as the nation’s leading office products company overcame weak revenue growth that saw sales advance half a percent to $6.6 billion.

  • The Body Shop deploys RedPrairie execution management solution

    Atlanta -- Supply chain solution-provider RedPrairie Corp. said Tuesday that The Body Shop has gone live with RedPrairie Execution Management at more than 70 stores in Indonesia.

    The cosmetics retailer plans to use the solution to streamline both head office and store processes, as well as promote improved efficiencies for in-store marketing activities including product introductions, planogramming, display setups, customer loyalty, and more.

  • Dick's Sporting Goods Q3 profit and sales up

    Pittsburgh -- Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. reported Tuesday that net income for the quarter ended Oct. 29 surged to $41.5 million, from $16.9 million in the year-ago period.

    Revenue rose 9% to $1.18 billion from $1.08 billion, beating Wall Street’s anticipated $1.16 billion in revenue.

    Same-store sales rose 4.1%.
