  • Mid-America Real Estate names new partners

    Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. -- Mid-America Real Estate Corp. announced the promotions of two senior VPs to partners.

    Andy Bulson is responsible for the management of Mid-America’s Suburban Tenant Representation Team, representing numerous national retailers throughout the Chicagoland area. Dan Tausk oversees Mid-America’s Urban Retail Team, representing both retail landlords and tenants in urban Chicago and its neighborhoods.

  • Holiday promotions lead to lower outlook at Williams-Sonoma

    SAN FRANCISCO — Williams-Sonoma Inc. said Thursday it has cut its fiscal Q4 earnings outlook below Wall Street expectations due to heavy holiday promotions levels.

    The company said it had to offer discounts to entice shoppers this holiday season. Although earnings guidance has been reduced to below expectations, Williams-Sonoma’s revenue outlook remains in line with Wall Street, trimmed to a range of $1.24 billion to $1.26 billion. The company had previously expected revenue as high as $1.27 billion.

  • Charming Charlie to open at Plymouth Meeting Mall

    Plymouth Meeting, Pa. – Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust announced that Charming Charlie will open a new store at Plymouth Meeting Mall, located in suburban Philadelphia.

    The new 12,000-sq.-ft. store is slated to open spring 2012. It completes the center’s recently developed outdoor lifestyle retail wing, which is anchored by Whole Foods Market and Café and features Loft, Orvis, Chico’s, Coldwater Creek, Jos. A Bank, Olly Shoes and Massage Envy.

  • Consultancy finds retailers fall short on online returns

    NEW YORK — Although online sales grew 15% from 2010 to 2011, many retailers' online ordering, shipping and returns processes failed to keep pace, according to management consultancy Kurt Salmon's rankings of 50 retailers.

  • Eastern Mountain Sports to roll out VeriFone iPad retailing solution

    San Jose, Calif. -- VeriFone Systems announced Thursday that outdoor retailer Eastern Mountain Sports has successfully piloted the VeriFone GlobalBay iPad solution in four stores and is readying a 2012 rollout.

    The VeriFone GlobalBay platform is a software-as-a-service offering that enables a suite of next-generation mobile retail software for retailer-to-consumer interaction and leverages retailers' existing POS, e-commerce and store systems.

  • Oracle teams up with Build-A-Bear Workshop to raise funds for Retail ROI at NRF show

    New York City -- Attendees at the 2012 National Retail Federation convention (“The Big Show”) in  New York who donate $20 to The Retail Orphan Initiative (RetailROI) will take home a Build-A-Bear Teddy Bear. The annaul event will be held Jan. 15 -18, at the Jacob Javits Center.

    In an initiative designed to raise funds for charities sponsored by RetailROI, Oracle is providing 2,000 Build-A-Bear Teddy Bears dressed in a custom RetailROI t-shirt at its booth on the exhibit floor (booth #1319).

  • Target to test Apple mini-stores in select locations

    Minneapolis -- Target Corp. confirmed Thursday that it plans to install Apple mini-boutiques in some of its stores this year. The concept will be tested in 25 locations, and feature a wider assortment of Apple products than is currently available at Target, according to Bloomberg.

  • Kohl's expands New York design studio, adds California studio

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl's Corp. said Thursday it is doubling the size of its design office in New York City, as well as adding its first design studio on the West Coast, in Santa Monica, Calif.

    The move, said the company, represents a commitment to its exclusive brands.

    "The investment reinforces our commitment to offering world-class brands at compelling value to our customers," said Kevin Mansell, Kohl's chairman, president and CEO, in a statement.
