  • Will consumers do what they say with their refunds?

    Losing weight is a little like saving money. Consumers will always intend to do more of both, but then reality sets in and they tend to do neither. Retailers can count on that pattern holding true this year, which is good news because a recent study by the National Retail Federation shows those planning to save their tax refund is at an all time high.

  • Stirling Properties to develop urban shopping center in New Orleans

    Covington, La. -- Stirling Properties announced the closing of the land acquisition and development financing for Mid-City Market, a 107,713-sq.-ft. Winn-Dixie anchored shopping center located in New Orleans.

    Mid-City Market’s amenities will include terraced outdoor seating and pedestrian plazas, benches, bike racks, trellises, and native landscaping throughout to compliment the proposed Lafitte Greenway pedestrian and bicycle pathway which will border Mid-City Market.

  • More comps declines at Sears and Kmart

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sagging sales and declining profits plagued Sears Holdings during the fourth quarter as the company posted a $2.4 billion loss and announced several measures to bolster its balance sheet.

  • Gap profit drops 40% in Q4, on track to open 10 net new stores in 2012

    San Francisco -- Gap Inc. reported Thursday that net income for the fourth quarter plummeted 40% on higher costs and aggressive discounting during the holiday selling season.

    Net income for the quarter ended Jan. 28 was $218 million, compared with $365 million a year earlier. Sales dipped to $4.28 billion in the quarter, from $4.36 billion, matching Wall Street estimates.

  • Casual Male representative teams with Great American Group for Kuwait store opening

    Woodland Hills, Calif. -- Kuwait-based trading and contracting company The Standard Arabian Business & Enterprises Co., which represents Casual Male, said Thursday it will use Great American Group GA Store Opening Services program for a retail location in Kuwait.

    The Sabeco project represents the first time Great American Group's new Store Opening Services have been used outside the United States.

  • Buzz-building activities pop-up in Toronto

    Today promises to be a special one for 25 Toronto area residents -- assuming their definition of special involves waiting in line for the opportunity to purchase up to three Jason Wu products at a Target pop-up store in Toronto and have their photo taken with the designer and Target’s mascot dog Bullseye.

    Wu’s line of goods sold out quickly when it hit U.S. Target stores earlier this month and that’s sure to be the case in Toronto as the notion of limited quantities and the air of exclusivity tend to ignite the urgency gene in shoppers.
