  • Ace Hardware on track to open 170 stores in 2012

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- Ace Hardware Corp. has reported substantial growth and expansion in priority markets across the country.

    “Our aggressive, long-term growth strategy features a total package of resources and support to ensure a successful future for our retailers,” said Mike Berschauer, director, retail development for Ace Hardware. “After a prosperous second quarter focused on store activations and conversions, Ace is on-track to achieve its goal of opening 170 new domestic stores in 2012.”
     

  • Straight Talk offers charitable support in exchange for sales pitch

    PHOENIX and MIAMI — Visitors to Walmart this fall have the opportunity to learn about Straight Talk Wirelsss and support the Make-A-Wish foundation in the process.

    The company announced that for every shopper who participates in a demonstration of a Straight Talk Wireless Android smart phone. it will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, with the ultimate goal of $1,000,000. The event will take place over four consecutive Saturdays starting September 22, 2012 at over 3,000 participating Walmarts under the banner "One Minute One Million."

  • Jones Group names senior Coach exec as divisional president

    New York -- The Jones Group Inc. said Wednesday it has appointed Kathy Nedorostek to the newly created position of group president, global footwear and accessories, effective mid-October.  

    In her new position, Nedorostek will oversee footwear, handbags and jewelry for Jones Group.

    Nedorostek arrives at Jones Group from Coach, where she was president of North America Wholesale and Global Licensing.

    SAN FRANCISCO — Gap Inc. is celebrating the 35th anniversary of Gap Foundation at a special gathering at the company's San Francisco headquarters on Sept. 13.

  • American Eagle sets special dividend

    Pittsburgh -- American Eagle Outfitters Inc. said Wednesday that its board declared a special cash dividend of $1.50 and a regular quarterly dividend of 11 cents.

    The retailer said the total cash dividend of $1.61 will be paid on Oct. 10 to shareholders of record as of Sept. 26.

    American Eagle said the dividends are part of its cash strategy to invest in the company, while still returning profits to its shareholders.
     

  • ShopperTrak: Holiday sales, foot traffic to realize gains

    CHICAGO — As holiday sales and foot traffic historically account for about 20% of annual retail activity, a new report by ShopperTrak revealed that consumers will shop more and visit more stores during the peak holiday shopping months of November and December.
