  • Macy’s Lundgren honored with a ‘Father of the Year’ award

    New York -- The National Father’s Day Council, a nonprofit that recognizes modern day role model fathers, has named Terry Lundgren, chairman, president and CEO of Macy’s Inc., as a recipient of its 2013 “Father of the Year” Award.

    Lundgren joins President Bill Clinton, founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation and 42nd President of the United States, as a fellow honoree. The awards will be presented at the 72nd Annual Father of the Year Awards in New York City on June 11.

  • Hilco seeks to elevate retail consulting biz

    Hilco Trading wants to build the next great retail consulting business and consistent with that goal it has hired Antony Karabus to serve as president of Hilco’s retail consulting arm and elevated current CEO Greg Rubin to the role of chairman.

  • Le Civette to open on Madison Avenue

    New York -- Douglas Elliman Real Estate's Retail Group said it has arranged for luxury sportswear brand Le Civette to anchor its first U.S. store at 1242 Madison Avenue, between 89th and 90th Streets.  

    The Italian-based retailer will locate its new store in the last available space along the block-front; neighbors include Jacadi, Mariana Antinori and Caramel Baby.

     

  • Consumers forsake brands for loyalty card deals

    CHICAGO — One-in-five consumers between the ages of 35 years and 54 years are choosing products due to a loyalty card discount, SymphonyIRI Group reported Wednesday as part of its Q4 2012 MarketPulse survey. And almost one-third are forsaking their preferred brands due to a sale price. The survey found that shopper sentiment dropped to its lowest point since Q3 2011.

  • Lowe’s makes management shifts

    Mooresville, N.C. -- Lowe’s Cos. Inc. said Thursday it has named Michael Jones chief merchandising officer, effective immediately. Jones was previously president of the North American and Latin American divisions of Husqvarna, an outdoor equipment manufacturer.

    The retailer also announced that Stephen J. Szilagyi has been promoted to supply chain executive, from his current position as SVP distribution.

  • ODP honored for diversity efforts

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot announced that it has been recognized by DiversityBusiness.com, the nation's leading multicultural business-to-business website, as one of the “Top 50 Organizations for Multicultural Business Opportunities” for 13 successive years. Office Depot was ranked fifth on the list.

    Companies on the "Div50" list are recognized for the volume, consistency, and quality of business opportunities granted to women- and minority-owned companies. 

  • Saks’ enhances omni-channel strategy with loyalty program updates and free shipping

    New York -- Saks Fifth Avenue is amping up its omni-channel strategy by updating  its SaksFirst loyalty program and adding free shipping. The changes will make the benefits of the program more consistent across Saks’ different channels.
     
    On Thursday, Saks announced that all Saks cardholders will now receive free shipping from Saks stores, Saks.com and Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th stores.

  • Food retail expert assumes interim CEO role at 99 Cents Only

    CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif. — Former Food Lion CEO, and current board member for 99 Cents Only Stores, Richard Anicetti, is assuming the role of interim CEO for the discount retailer. In addition, Michael Fung will join the company as interim chief administrative officer overseeing finance, information technology, real estate and various administrative functions of the company.  

    In connection with the foregoing changes, Eric Schiffer, Jeff Gold and Howard Gold are no longer employed by the company.
