  • Verge helps Alco connect with customers

    HENDERSON, N.C.  — Alco has launched a branded smartphone app powered by Verge Connect. With Verge Connect, Alco customers can select the types of deals and coupons they receive, as well as filter by services offered at all 23 store locations across North and South Carolina. The ALCO branded app also features mapping and customer interaction capabilities via social media and direct feedback.

  • Replacement named for long-time Williams-Sonoma president

    SAN FRANCISCO — Janet Hayes, currently the president of Pottery Barn Kids and PBteen, will become president of the Williams-Sonoma brand, effective March 20. She replaces Richard Harvey, who will be leaving the company on May 3, 2013, after 30 years of service.

  • Rite Aid expands Easter assortment

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has expanded its Easter and spring supplies at its stores in anticipation of the holiday and season, the retail pharmacy chain said Monday.

    The 4,623-store chain said items at its stores included chocolate bunnies, marshmallow Peeps, SweeTarts, Ducks & Bunnies, Cadbury Eggs and other candy brands, as well as baskets and other accessories.

    In addition, the company is selling such gardening supplies as planters, figurines, bird feeders, wind chimes and outdoor fountains and lighting, including solar-powered devices.

  • REI to open new store in Tysons area

    McLean, Va. -- Recreational Equipment said that it will open a new REI store in the Tysons area of McLean, Va.

    The 32,800-sq.-ft., two-story store is slated to open in August 2013.

    “Tysons is the ultimate shopping hub in Northern Virginia,” said Ray Dinterman, REI retail director for the Mid-Atlantic district. “Our new store will join five other local REI stores and help us better outfit nearly 200,000 active members who paddle the Potomac and hike the Appalachian Trail."

    ROCKFORD, Mich. — Wolverine Brand, the makers of authentic outdoor and work boots, shoes and apparel, is supporting The Wolverine Foundation, a non-profit organization comprised of wildlife scientists with a common interest in the wolverine. The brand's funding is vital to The Wolverine Foundation and supports continued research projects and awareness programs.

  • Wendy’s to expand into Ecuador

    Dublin, Ohio -- The Wendy's Co. announced Tuesday an agreement with The Eljuri Group to develop 20 Wendy's restaurants in Ecuador.

    As the largest business group in Ecuador, Eljuri said it expects to open the first two Wendy's locations in 2013 in Guayaquil, a coastal city with a population of 2.3 million people.

  • Report: Sam's Club, Amazon tops in retail customer experience

    Waban, Mass. -- Research results released Tuesday by consulting firm Temkin Group revealed, among retailers, Sam’s Club and Amazon earned top marks.

    According to the 2013 Temkin Experience Rankings which queried 10,000 U.S. consumers about customer service issues across 246 companies in 19 industries, Sam's Club and Amazon earned the top spots in the retail sector and RadioShack was the lowest rated retailer for the third consecutive year.
