    BOSTON — Wayfair.com, an online retailer of home products and furnishings, announced five executive leadership promotions Monday.

    Ed Macri was named SVP business intelligence and marketing, and John Mulliken was named SVP strategic initiatives. Additional executive promotions include Dave Raymond to VP operations process improvement, Laura Scott to VP supplier operations and Jeff Steeves to VP arketing.

  • Saks names NYC flagship director

    New York -- Saks Fifth Avenue announced Monday that John Cruz has been named SVP and director of the New York City flagship store, effective April 29.

    Cruz currently serves as VP and general manager of the company’s Beverly Hills store. He has worked at the NYC store before – as general manager 2005-2007 and VP and GM 2007-2010.

    Cruz replaces Suzanne Stemper-Johnson, who is leaving Saks to pursue other interests.

     

  • Walgreens opens flagship in Empire State Building

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens opened its latest New York flagship store in the Empire State Building on March 23.

    The store includes an enhanced pharmacy designed to encourage greater interaction between pharmacists and patients, a health guide to help customers find health-and-wellness products and healthcare services ranging from immunizations to health tests. An "Ask Your Pharmacist" desk, private consultation rooms and Express Rx kiosks are included as well.

  • Vitamin Shoppe makes international debut with Panama store

    Bergen, N.J. -- Vitamin Shoppe said Monday it has opened its first international franchised Vitamin Shoppe store, located in Panama City. The store, which opened March 4, is owned and operated by franchisee Reprico.

    "We're excited to partner with Reprico and bring the Vitamin Shoppe to Panama," said Musab Balbale, director of new business for the Vitamin Shoppe. "Our focus on delighting the customer with knowledge and great service will make us a trusted source for our customers in Panama."

  • Dollar General Q4 earnings rise; 635 stores on tap for fiscal 2013

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General reported Monday net income of $317 million for the quarter ended Feb. 1, compared with $293 million in the year-ago period, beating Wall Street expectations. The company also forecasted 2013 sales growth of 10%-12%, slightly below analysts’ views.

    Revenue edged up 0.5% to $4.21 billion in the quarter, missing Wall Street’s expected $4.26 billion. Same-store sales rose 3%.

    For the full year, profit grew to $953 million from $767 million, and revenue rose 8.2% to $16.02 billion.

  • DG to surpass 11,000 stores in '13

    Fourth quarter same store sales increased 3% at Dollar General as the company capped of another record year and indicated it would open 635 stores this year.

    Total sales for the company’s 13 week fourth quarter ended February 1, increased 0.5%, to $4.21 billion compared to $4.19 billion during the 14 week fourth quarter the prior year. Excluding the extra week from the prior year’s fourth quarter, sales would have increased 8%. The company said its same store sales increase was driven by consumables and a mix of increased transaction size and customer traffic.
