  • Ocean Spray appoints global CMO

    LAKEVILLE-MIDDLEBORO, Mass. — Ocean Spray Cranberries has appointed Thano Chaltas to the newly created role of global CMO. He will report directly to Ken Romanzi, SVP and COO of Ocean Spray Brands.

    Chaltas will be responsible for global brand development, and a part of the grower-owned cooperative’s leadership team. 

  • Taco Bell says goodbye to kids’ meals and toys

    Irvine, Calif. – Taco Bell plans to discontinue all kids’ meals and toys at its U.S. restaurants. The fast-food chain will start removing the items from its menu at stores this month at anticipates to have eliminated all kids’ meals and toys in the U.S. by January of next year. Menu items from kids’ meals will remain available for individual purchase.

    Greg Creed, CEO of Taco Bell, said kids’ meals are not part of the company’s long-range strategy and have an insignificant impact on overall sales.

  • Study: One-in-three shoppers showroom

    Lewisville, Texas -- Almost six-in-10 (58%) U.S. smartphone owners, representing one-in-three overall shoppers, “showroom” or check for better prices on in-store items using their mobile devices. The Parago Dynamic Pricing Study also shows that Amazon is the number one way U.S. consumers compare prices on smartphones in store.

  • Phase I underway at The Shoppes at Parma

    Parma, OhioPhillips Edison & Company has broken ground on The Shoppes at Parma — formerly Parmatown Mall. Phase I will focus on infrastructure. Work will include new lighting, new sidewalks and the restoration of the parking lots. In addition, the contractor will prepare out-parcels for development. Phase I will wrap up this fall.

  • McDonald’s reports small Q2 gains

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- McDonald’s Corporation reported modest global gains in net income, revenues and same-store sales during the second quarter of fiscal 2013. Both its profit and revenue trailed analysts’ estimates.

  • Compare Foods implements Swift Shopper app

    New York -- Supermarket operator Compare Foods announced that it begun the implementation of the Swift Shopper app created by ezCommerce Solutions. The app, designed for those retailers hesitant to invest in mobile point-of-sale, costs retailers nothing and doesn’t require any hardware, training or integration to implement. Customers download it to their phone/tablet for free (or upgrade for the low cost of $1.99) and it enables them to scan any barcode as they shop.  

    It works in every store where cashiers have dual-line handheld scanners.

  • Best Buy asserts innovation with OLED TV

    A new era in television technology emerged at Best Buy this weekend which takes screen thickness,  picture quality and price points to unprecedented levels.

    Best Buy’s high end Magnolia shop in located inside its Richfield, Minn., store became the first U.S. retailer to sell LG Electronic’s OLED HDTV. The 55 inch OLED (organic light emitting diode) television features a super thin curved screen that is less than a quarter of an inch thick and retails for $14,999.

  • The Outlet Collection | Seattle adds retailers

    Columbus, Ohio — Glimcher Realty Trust has released the tenant list for The Outlet Collection | Seattle, which is nearing completion of a major, $35 million renovation. The renovation is transforming the center into a designer fashion outlet mall.

    The tenant list includes several retailers new to center. They are Coach, Nike, Michael Kors, J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, Loft Outlet, H&M and Sketchers.
