  • NACDS Total Store Expo attendees get a nice dose of Martha Stewart

    NEWARK, N.J. — Inergetics, a developer of nutraceuticals and nutritional supplements, introduced Martha Stewart at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Total Store Expo at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas Monday, August 12. 

    Stewart was there to support the partnership between Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and Inergetics, Inc. as well as to promote the launch of Martha Stewart Essentials — a complete line of whole-food-based supplements created with Inergetics, specifically targeted for women.

  • Expert Analysis: July Retail Sales

    Sterne Agee chief economist Lindsey M. Piegza comments on July retail sales gain of 0.2%:

    Headline retail sales rose 0.2% in July, slightly less than expected but last month’s sales were revised up two-tenths from 0.4% to 0.6%. This is the fourth consecutive monthly increase in retail sales. Excluding autos, retail sales rose 0.5%, the strongest monthly gain since February.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us launches branded gift cards in China

    Wayne, N.J. -- Toys “R” Us announced that it has introduced its own gift card program in its stores throughout China. Gift cards are now available for purchase in its 41 locations, and can be redeemed in any Toys “R” Us store in the country.
     

  • Lakeforest Mall will spend $1.2 million on improvements

    Gaithersburg, Md. — Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg, Md., today announced a $1.2 million renovation plan. Improvements will include a reconfiguration of the center court, a new and improved children’s play area and new furniture for the food court.

    Work will level the 5,245-sq.-ft. center court to create a space that will host community events such as the Lunar New Year Celebration, Summer Camp Expo and holiday promotions. Center court renovations will finish up by early November.

  • Office Depot tries to make peace with Starboard

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot is extending an olive branch to its largest shareholder, Starboard Value LLP, to settle a dispute about who should serve on the company’s board of directors. 

    In a press release, Office Depot said that if CEO Selection Committee members Tom Colligan and Marsha Evans are re-elected, the company would immediately invite to its board of directors any of the three Starboard nominees recommended by proxy advisory firms Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and Glass Lewis who are not elected.

  • Hampton Roads gets two more Firehouse Subs

    Virginia Beach, Va. — Two Firehouse Subs shops opened Monday, an 1,800-sq.-ft. location in Virginia Beach’s Strawbridge area and a 2,400-sq.-ft. location in Hampton’s Coliseum Central.

    Divaris Real Estate represented the sub shop in negotiations for each location.

     

  • Whirlpool accelerates growth in China's emerging market

    BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Whirlpool Corporation has entered into agreements to become a majority shareholder in Hefei Rongshida Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd., a leading home appliances manufacturer based in Hefei, China.

    Through this transaction, a Whirlpool Corporation subsidiary will acquire all shares currently owned by Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. and Sanyo Electric Co. (China) Ltd., and purchase new Hefei Sanyo shares via a private placement.
