  • Becker’s School Supplies relaunches e-commerce site

    Pennsauken, N.J. – Becker’s School Supplies has redeveloped and relaunched its e-commerce site on the WebLinc e-commerce platform.

    The WebLinc platform provides both front-end branding and back-end merchandising and management tools. Within months of launching its new site, Becker’s experienced a 120% jump in revenue compared to the same period last year and saw transaction volume increase by 81%.

  • Report: Staples and RadioShack remove Amazon lockers

    New York -- Staples and RadioShack Corp. have removed Amazon lockers from their stores, according to Bloomberg. The chains were among a group of retailers who have been testing the system.

    According to the report, Staples ended the partnership with Amazon because it didn’t meet the criteria the two companies set up, while RadioShack said the program did not fit with its strategy.

     

  • Duane Reade finds ROI and engagement success on Twitter

    New York -- New York City drugstore operator Duane Reade, a division of Walgreens, on Tuesday celebrated an important social milestone — surpassing one million followers on Twitter — with a gala event at the chain’s flagship on Wall Street. From September 2012 to date, the regional retailer has organically grown its Twitter following by 6,709%, making it one of the fastest-growing accounts on Twitter year over year. With 1.1 million followers at latest count, the chain is believed to be the most followed retailer in the drug, food and mass arena.

  • Whole Foods launches meat apprenticeship

    Austin, Texas – Whole Foods Market is launching an in-store meat apprenticeship program for its team members. The intensive 18-month training program is designed to transform aspiring butchers into skilled meat cutters and teach them the company's standards for quality, animal welfare, food safety, and sanitation.

  • Hhgregg plans 500 holiday hires

    Indianapolis – Hhgregg will hire 500 qualified home appliance and electronics sales associates in preparation for the holiday shopping season for its 228 stores. The company is accepting applications through the end of September and will be hiring for stores in the Midwest, South, Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes regions.

    New York – Macy’s, Inc. is partnering with NYC & Company, the marketing, tourism and partnership organization for New York City, to co-brand its new Herald Square Visitor Center as an official New York City information center.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods plans to add over 300 stores by 2018

    Pittsburgh -- Dick’s Sporting Goods on Wednesday detailed its long-term plan to deliver sales and operating profit growth and drive shareholder value over the next five years, with the company’s namesake stores, new Field & Stream retail format and omnichannel platform driving its growth.

  • Publix Pharmacy ranks No. 1 in customer satisfaction

    Boulder, Col. -- Publix Pharmacy is North America’s favorite based on customer satisfaction, according to a new study of 3,600 consumers conducted by customer intelligence solutions provider Market Force Information. Target was a close second and Kroger ranked third. All three received high marks in operational attributes such as service, cleanliness, atmosphere and checkout times.

    Walgreens and CVS/pharmacy ranked the highest when those consumers were asked to name their pharmacy chain, with 18% identifying Walgreens and 17% CVS.
