  • Forest City Ratner names retail group exec

    New York City -- Forest City Ratner Cos. announced that Kathryn Welch has been named retail group senior VP.

    With 26 years of collective experience working with both New York City-based FCRC and its Cleveland-based corporate parent Forest City Enterprises, Welch now will assume oversight of all of FCRC’s retail projects. This includes retail properties under development as well as the company’s entire retail operating portfolio in the New York Metropolitan area.

  • On the Upswing?

    I’m feeling pretty good about our industry after attending the ICSC New York Deal Making Conference earlier this month. In a marked change from recent years, the mood at the annual convention was noticeably upbeat. And, surprisingly — in a good way — there was an obvious buzz in the air about expansion plans. There are some intriguing new retail concepts in the pipeline and the recent influx of international brands making their brick-and-mortar entry into the U.S. market gives us what I think are genuine reasons for optimism in the New Year. 

  • Venhuizen promoted at Ace Hardware

    Ace Hardware appointed John Venhuizen chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1, 2012.

    Venhuizen has spent nearly two decades with Ace and most recently served as executive VP supply chain, information technology (IT) and international. In this position, he helped grow the number of Ace stores around the world, as well as create a variety of successful support and incentive programs for retailers.

  • Ace Hardware names COO

    Oakbrook, Ill. -- Ace Hardware said Wednesday it has named John Venhuizen COO, effective Jan. 1, 2012.

    Venhuizen has spent nearly two decades with Ace and most recently served as executive VP supply chain, information technology and international. In this position, he helped grow the number of Ace stores around the world, as well as create a variety of successful support and incentive programs for retailers.

    Venhuizen will report to Ray Griffith, president and CEO.

  • SRS Real Estate names exec

    Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners announced the hiring of Scott Landgraf as senior VP in the company’s Newport Beach, Calif., office.

    Prior to joining SRS, Landgraf was senior VP at Colliers International.

    Landgraf specializes in retail tenant representation and investment sales throughout southern California and the Inland Empire.
     

  • T.J. Maxx to open at Ridge Hill

    Yonkers, N.Y. -- Aries Deitch & Endelson said that a lease was recently signed by TJX Cos. for a 32,000-sq.-ft. T.J. Maxx store slated to open this spring at Westchester County’s Ridge Hill, the New York metropolitan area’s largest mixed-use outdoor shopping center. 

    Located in Yonkers, the lifestyle center, which is owned by Forest City Ratner Cos., spans more than 81.4 acres and includes 1.3 million sq. ft.

  • Sabre Real Estate names exec

    Garden City, N.Y. -- Sabre Real Estate Group said that Scott Sher has been named senior VP of the retail real estate brokerage firm.

    Formerly director of real estate-northeastern region at Katz & Associates Corp., of Pearl River, Sher specializes in tenant and landlord representation in the New Jersey, Manhattan, Outer Boroughs, Westchester and Long Island markets.
     

  • Safeway names president of grocer's Denver division

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Tuesday named Al Duran to the role of president of the company's Denver division. He replaces Scott Grimmett, who is leaving Safeway for an opportunity with a noncompeting food retailer, the company stated.

    "Al's results-oriented leadership style and experience on both the retail and the marketing side of our business will serve him well in his new assignment," Safeway chairman, president and CEO Steve Burd said. "He is also a Colorado native and knows that market well."
