  • GNC falls short in Q3

    GNC had higher expectations for its third quarter earnings.   The nutritional supplement retailer reported revenue of $628.0 million, a decrease of 8.1% compared with $683.4 million for third quarter 2016, ended Sept. 30, 2016. Similarly, GNC’s net income of $32.4 million dropped compared with $45.8 million in third quarter 2015.

  • Sears sweetens reward for MasterCard 'Shop Your Way' shoppers

    Starting Nov. 1, more than 5 million Sears MasterCard holders whose cards are linked to the Shop Your Way program will earn more Shop Your Way points at Kmart and many of their favorite retailers.   These Sears MasterCard holders will automatically earn more Shop Your Way points on a complimentary basis through December 31, 2017, including:
    • 5% back in points on eligible purchases made at gas stations;
    • 3% back in points on eligible purchases at grocery stores and restaurants
  • Consumer confidence takes a hit in October

    Consumer confidence experienced an October surprise of sorts after reaching a nine-year high in September.   The index now stands at 98.6, down from 103.5 last month.

    Two online brands and an iconic American designer top a list of retail brands that command the most loyalty among consumers.   Amazon, Zappos and Ralph Lauren were the top loyalty leaders in the retail segment in the 20th annual  Brand Keys Loyalty Leaders List.  The ranking, which is 100% consumer-driven, examined 72 categories and 635 brands. Rounding out the top five in retail: Sephora and Trader Joe’s.
