  • Michael Kors Q1 profit leaps 82%; plans new stores in India and Brazil

    New York -- Fashion presence Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. reported a first-quarter profit of $125 million, nearly double the $68.6 million profit of the year-ago period.

    Revenue for the quarter ended June 29 soared 54% percent to $640.9 million, well above Wall Street’s expected $570.5 million. Same-store sales climbed 27.3%. In North America, which generates 86% of the company's business, same-store sales rose 25%.

  • Fandango, Rue La La offer V.me digital wallet service

    Los Angeles – Fandango and Rue La La have both begun offering customers the option of using the V.me digital wallet service from Visa to pay at online checkout. V.me eliminates the need to enter billing, shipping and account information, and instead allows consumers to pay for a purchase by entering their user name and password.

    Other e-commerce merchants that have recently started accepting V.me payments include Crutchfield, Modnique, and Sonic Electronix.

     

  • Digital marketing agency brings in e-commerce exec

    Roundarch Isobar, the U.S. arm of the global digital marketing agency Isobar, has appointed Steven Moy as the company’s chief commerce officer. He joins from SapientNitro, where he was VP of business and office lead at that company’s Boston office.  

    Roundarch Isobar will leverage Moy’s experience in retail to further develop the company’s digital commerce practice. He will report directly to Jeff Maling and Geoff Cubitt, co-CEOs of Roundarch Isobar.

  • Target to expand online beauty footprint with DermStore acquisition

    Minneapolis -- Target Corp. announced plans to acquire online beauty retailer DermStore for an undisclosed sum.

    The move will allow Target to further tap into the online beauty market, as well as continue its trend toward acquiring specialty businesses to ramp up its presence in various niche markets. In March, Target announced its acquisition of Chefs Catalog and Cooking.com in two separate transactions to create a subsidiary.

  • Moorestown Mall signs Distrito by Iron Chef Jose Garces

    Philadelphia — Distrito, a Garces Group restaurant, has leased a 7,500-sq.-ft. space at the Moorestown Mall in Moorestown, N.J., according to the mall’s owner Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust.

    James Beard Award-winning chef and one of only a few chefs in the country designated an Iron Chef, Jose Garces owns and operates more than a dozen restaurants in five states.

    With eight years of commercial real estate experience, Aini comes to the firm from Trevi Retail in New York, where he served as director of acquisitions and Leasing responsible for internal leasing efforts and the sourcing, underwriting and valuing of Manhattan retail condominiums and mixed-use assets.

    New York — Korean fashion designer Boyoung Kim will open her first dedicated boutique on Columbus Avenue, said Faith Hope Consolo, chairman, and Joseph A. Aquino, executive VP of Douglas Elliman’s Retail Group.
