  • Best Buy continues to rally as it addresses declining comp-store sales

    Best Buy withstood merchandising related disruptions during the second quarter to achieve on plan sales results and gain momentum heading into the back half of the year.

    Domestic revenue of $7.81 billion increased 0.1% versus last year. This increase was primarily driven by the revenue from 57 net new Best Buy Mobile stand-alone stores that were opened predominantly in the third and fourth quarters of fiscal year 2013, partially offset by the comparable store sales decline.

  • TJX Q2 profit jumps14%, ups annual forecast

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — TJX Cos. reported that its fiscal second-quarter net income rose a better-than-expected 14%. The off-price retailer also increased its profit outlook for the year.

    The company earned $479.6 million for the quarter, which ended on Aug. 3, up from $421.1 million in the same quarter last year.

  • Target is heading to King of Prussia, Pa.

    The Valley Forge Shopping Center on West DeKalb Pike is adding Target to its tenant roster July 2014, making it the first Target store in the city of King of Prussia. 

    The King of Prussia store will be approximately 165,000 sq. ft. and will include a selection of fresh produce, fresh packaged meat and pre-packaged baked goods, as well as a Starbucks, Target Optical and Target Pharmacy.

  • Target to open in King of Prussia, Pa.

    Minneapolis -- Target announced plans to open a store in King of Prussia, Pa., in July 2014. 

    The new store, located on West DeKalb Pike, will be part of the Valley Forge Shopping Center. This will be the first Target store in the city of King of Prussia.

    “Pennsylvania continues to be a strong market for Target, and we’re eager to expand our presence in the state this year,” said Samir Shah, Target’s senior VP of stores, Northeast.

    I recently had the chance to observe and talk with some tweens and teens about their smartphone use. You guessed it: it’s first and foremost about communicating with their friends and, yes, even with parents and other family members. Shopping runs a good second. Anyone targeting this particular age group must think of communication as a “use case” for smartphones. 

  • Urban Outfitter’s Q2 profit surges 25%

    PHILADELPHIA — Urban Outfitters’ second-quarter net income jumped to $76 million for the three months ended July 31, 2013.

    Total company net sales for the second quarter increased 12% to a record $759 million. Same—store sales, including the company’s direct-to-consumer channel, increased 9%.

    Comparable retail segment net sales increased 38% at Free People, 9% at Anthropologie and 5% at Urban Outfitters. Wholesale segment net sales rose 17%.

    CHICAGO — With an eye on new growth opportunities, Tommy Bahama has selected the Hybris commerce platform to improve its omnichannel commerce capabilities.

    A leading retailer of island-inspired apparel and home furnishings, Tommy Bahama has seen growth in it online commerce throughout the past few years. Tommy Bahama also offers in-store kiosks, where shoppers can access a commerce channel that enables an "endless aisle" of available products —allowing shoppers to access out-of-stock or online-exclusive items directly in-store.

  • Park City Group bolsters leadership team

    Park City Group, a leading consumer goods supply chain technology designed to increase sales and reduce out-of-stocks, has added private-label marketing veteran William Wolfe to its leadership team.  

    Wolfe, who has more than 30 years of experience, will serve as a senior adviser, responsible for developing business solutions, consulting and expanding sales efforts in the retail channel.
