  • Survey: Post-holiday shopping looks strong

    Austin, Texas - A majority of consumers (79%) plan to shop the end-of-year sales after the holidays are over. In addition, a new survey from RetailMeNot and The Omnibus Company shows that nearly half of consumers (42%) report that they typically end up returning at least some gifts they receive for the holidays.

  • Dorel seeks new CEO to replace segment leader

    A search is underway for a new CEO to lead Dorel Industries recreational and leisure products segment following the departure of Robert Baird.

    Until a replacement for Baird is named, Peter Woods, CFO of the recreational and leisure segment, will serve as CEO. Baird joined Dorel as president of the recreation and leisure segment in 2008 as part of a reorganization after previously serving in a senior leadership role at Philips Electronics. He also held key roles as companies such as Samsonite, Scott Paper, Bristol Myers and Procter & Gamble before arriving at Dorel.

  • Macy’s to build new fulfillment center

    Cincinnati – Macy’s will build a major direct-to-consumer fulfillment center near Owasso in Tulsa County, Okla., to support continued sales growth driven by Macy’s omni-channel strategy. The company is expected to invest more than $170 million in the facility, including the latest technology in material handling equipment and warehouse management systems.

  • Walgreens a destination for Christmas procrastinators

    Truly last minute shoppers will be able to visit the corner of happy and healthy this Christmas Eve and Christmas Day where Walgreens said most of its nearly 8,200 stores will be open.

    The company, which features “at the corner of happy & healthy” as its advertising tag line, said most stores will be open until midnight on Christmas Eve and its roughly 1,600 24-hour stores would stay open around the clock. On Christmas Day, most of the company’s non-24-hour stores will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

  • Walgreens adds holiday hours, gift app

    Deerfield Park, Ill. – Most Walgreens stores will be open until midnight through Christmas Eve, and most stores will be open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, including 1,600 24-hour locations. On Christmas Day, most non-24-hour stores will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

  • Amazon leverages convenience to grab last-minute holiday shoppers

    Amazon is touting its Prime program again this holiday season, reminding members that they can order gifts as late as midnight EST Sunday, Dec. 22, and still get free delivery before Christmas.

    The online retailer is leveraging the shorter shopping period this year, which is one week shorter than last year’s, to drive sales by emphasizing the convenience that online shopping can afford — a surefire way to draw shoppers who want to avoid the imminent crowds this weekend.

  • Russian retailer DIXY selects Revionics for price optimization

    Austin, Texas -- Merchandise optimization solution-provider Revionics said that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with DIXY Group, one of Russia’s largest national retail operators in the food retail market, to provide Revionics price optimization solution to the company’s DIXY Neighborhood Stores, which includes 1,580 retail stores.
