  • Changing of guard at Sheetz as Joe Sheetz assumes CEO role

    Altoona, Pa. -- Joe S. Sheetz, executive VP of finance and store development for Sheetz, will assume the position of president and CEO, beginning Oct. 1.

    Current chief executive Stan Sheetz leaves the presidency after 18 years and will stay active in the convenience store chain in the role of chairman.

  • ICSC brings glad tidings to retailers

    The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is forecasting a 3.4% sales increase for the traditional November-December holiday period from last year — which spells good news for retailers. 

    ICSC also anticipates that the other two measures of U.S. industry holiday sales — shopping-center inclined sales +3.4%, and chain-store sales +2.0 — will both increase over last year.

  • Rouses Markets to expand into Alabama; will remodel six acquired stores

    Thibodaux, La. -- Southern grocery store operator Rouses Markets will take ownership of six former Belle Foods stores in Alabama from Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG), a retail-owner cooperative of which Rouses Markets is a member. AWG and its group of grocers and operators submitted the winning bid last week at the Belle Foods bankruptcy auction in Birmingham.

    This is Rouses Markets' first expansion into Alabama. The company currently operates 38 stores in Louisiana and Mississippi. Three new stores in Louisiana were also recently announced.

  • Saks boosts display compliance with Tyco RFID solution

    New York -- Saks Fifth Avenue was able to reach nearly 100% display compliance at its 8th floor shoe department in their flagship New York City store with the TrueVUE Inventory Display Execution application from Tyco Retail Solutions. Using a handheld RFID reader, associates can inventory shoes daily and generate an actionable report of all missing display shoes to replenish.

  • NRF creates CMO Council

    Washington, D.C. - The National Retail Federation (NRF) today announced the development of a new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Council to serve as an advertising and marketing voice for the retail industry. The organization’s Retail Advertising and Marketing Association (RAMA) will transition into the newly created council.
