  • Two big promotions at Hhgregg

    Hhgregg continues to reshape its executive team.    The consumer electronics and appliance chain promoted Kevin Kovacs to CFO. He is assuming the role from Robert Riesbeck, who was recently appointed president and CEO. Since joining Hhgregg in 2009, Kovacs held the roles of VP/controller and director of tax and treasury   In other moves, Hhgregg promoted Sam Johnson to chief retail officer. Since joining Hhgregg in 2010, Johnson has served in the role of senior VP of stores.   
  • A resurgent Coach to trim department store distribution

    The momentum at Coach Inc. continued in the fourth quarter, as the company reported healthy same-store sales growth at its North American stores and better-than-expected earnings.   
  • Teen apparel retailer to unveil new store prototype

    It’s no secret that Abercrombie & Fitch has been developing a new prototype.   The chain will unveil its new look early next year, at Polaris Fashion Place, in Columbus, Ohio. The store will herald a new direction for the brand with a new aesthetic and updated merchandise selections. It will be situated on the lower level near Madewell.     Abercrombie has already introduced a new look for its Hollister store brand.

    Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, and Mark Lore, co-founder and CEO of Jet.com, discussed Walmart’s acquisition of the online site and other industry topics on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”  
  • Supermarket chain down under upgrading checkout experience

    Coles Supermarkets, one of Australia’s largest supermarket retailers, is deploying a new solution to improve customer checkout experiences and operational efficiency.   The retailer is adding NCR’s RealPOS XR8 as its future POS terminals. Coles also plans to upgrade more than 4,000 POS units in the next financial year.  
  • Is Restoration Hardware thinking of entering a new business?

    Gary Friedman, CEO of Restoration Hardware, is not denying reports that the ultra-luxury home furnishings company may one day sell fully designed and outfitted homes.
  • Report: Bankrupt teen apparel chain in negotiations with Versa Capital

    Aeropostale is negotiating a potential sale to private equity firm Versa Capital Management LLC, Reuters reported. Versa specializes in distressed investments.      In court papers filed at the end of last week,the retailer said it has been in discussions with Versa regarding a possible stalking horse bid at the chain’s bankruptcy auction later this month. The bid by Versa could include a cash payment for Aéropostale’s inventory, and the assumption of more than 500  
  • Hhgregg makes executive moves

    Hhgregg announced several key executive appointments. The news comes on the heels of the appointment of interim CEO Robert Riesbeck as permanent chief of the consumer electronics and appliance retailer.    The moves include the promotion of former VP of marketing and nine-year company veteran Chris Sutton to senior VP of marketing, with oversight for all marketing initiatives as well as Hhgregg’s growing e-commerce channel. Sutton previously worked in advertising and brand marketing for The Walt Disney Company.
