  • Survey: Parents in no hurry to finish up back-to-school shopping

    Retailers still have time to capitalize on their second biggest selling season of the year.   Only 45% of households with children in grades K-12 had completed of their shopping as of early August, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. That’s down from 52% at the same time in 2013 and 48% last year.

    Macy's is streamlining its merchandising operations, expanding its exclusive products and putting increased emphasis on customer insights and data analytics as new CEO Jeff Gennette begins to make his mark on the ailing department store giant.       
  • Analysis: DSW on sound footing for better growth

    Overall, this is a solid set of results from DSW which shows the company is moving in the right direction. The 0.6% rise in comparable sales may not be spectacular, but given it is the first time in over two years that the measure has been positive, we see it as an encouraging sign.  
  • Wal-Mart envisions ‘floating warehouse’

    Amazon isn't the only retailer thinking about drones.   Wal-Mart Stores has applied for a patent for a blimp-styled "floating warehouse" that could make deliveries directly to shoppers’ homes via drones, Bloomberg reported.    The machine would fly at heights between 500 ft. and 1,000 ft. and be equipped with multiple launching bays. It would be operated autonomously or by a remote human pilot.   
  • Slideshow: TJX's new U.S. concept opens

    TJX Companies has taken the wraps off its newest U.S. retail format, Homesense, which debuted at Shopper's World plaza in Framingham, Mass.   The new concept, which TJX has described as a complement to its Home Goods format, has expanded departments for large-scale furniture, lighting and art. It also features new departments, including a general store.  
  • Target and Best Buy among speakers at annual cybersecurity summit

    The Retail Cyber Intelligence Sharing Center (R-CISC) has announced featured speakers for its Retail Cyber Intelligence Summit, held October 3 - 4, 2017, in Chicago.    Among the keynote speakers are Rich Agostino, chief information security officer at Target Corp, who will lead a session titled, "Stepping into Leadership: Staying Ahead of Today's Threats and the Evolving CISO Role," and Kostas Georgakopoulos, CISO at Procter & Gamble, leading a session on the next evolution of information security.  
  • Center changes hands in ‘fast-growing’ Folsom

    Citing favorable demographics and a steady income stream, Nazareth Enterprises acquired the Walmart Central Shopping Center in Folsom, California for $39.7 million.    Besides Walmart, the 139,377-sq.-ft. center contains a 24-hour Fitness SuperSport Gym, the 99Cent Store, and Great Clips. It’s shadow-anchored by a Super Walmart.
