    SUNBURY, Pa. - Weis Markets has announced that it has lowered the prices on 2,400 staple items, and that it will freeze the prices of these products for 90 days through April 2. 

  • Giant Food gives customers Healthy Ideas

    LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food is helping customers stick to their New Year resolutions by emphasizing its product labeling system.

    Healthy Ideas, which initially launched in January 2009, identifies healthy options for customers as they shop the aisles, and includes both perishable and nonperishable items, as well as private-label and national brands.

  • Report: BJ’s Wholesale may face hostile bid from Leonard Green & Partners

    New York City -- BJ’s Wholesale Club is in the sights of private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners, which may pursue a hostile bid for the chain, according to The New York Post.

    The Los Angeles-based buyout firm may make a bid if no auction occurs in coming weeks, the report said, citing an unidentified person close to the situation. BJ’s planned an auction to sell itself after an earlier bid from Leonard Green, according to the newspaper.

    New York City -- A report released Monday by Advisor One said that while it’s still too early to know the final outcome of the Christmas shopping season, it’s already clear that it’s been a record season for online retail.

  • Food Lion goes mobile

    Salisbury, N.C. -- Food Lion has unveiled a new mobile app that puts its stores right at customers' fingertips.

    The new app, developed in partnership with Mercatus USA, gives customers the capability to create shopping lists, access weekly specials, download new recipes and locate stores. Also giving customers more bang for their buck is the opportunity to sign up for the Food Lion MVP loyalty program through the app.

    The app can be accessed by visiting the iTunes library, and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod devices.

  • WP Realty acquires Mayfair Shopping Center

    Philadelphia -- Bryn Mawr, Pa.-based WP Realty said it has acquired Mayfair Shopping Center, located in Philadelphia.

    Mayfair is a single-story, 115,411-sq.-ft. community shopping center comprised of four buildings, including one bank pad (Wachovia). The center is anchored by national and regional retailers including Shop ‘n Bag, Dollar Tree and Fashion Bug.

    Mayfair Shopping Center is currently 86% occupied with 16,339 sq. ft. of available retail space.

    The age old question of what to get the person who has everything has finally been answered, and a Walmart gift card appears to be the ultimate solution for the perplexed gift-giver. That’s according to the gift card exchange website www.giftcardrescue.com and survey involving 6,000 people who created gift card wish lists on its site since the beginning of the year.
