  • GMA emphasize work of food and beverage industry on Food Day

    WASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association has highlighted the U.S. food and beverage industry's accomplishments on Food Day, which celebrates the more than 15 million Americans who work to provide billions of consumers with safe, healthy, convenient and affordable food.

  • Focus on: America’s Top Redevelopers

    In its seventh year, the annual Top Redevelopers survey took a little turn. Chain Store Age’s coverage of the prior year’s redevelopment highlights has been expanded to include an additional six-month period in order to make the results as current as possible. So, instead of covering redevelopment projects that occurred during calendar year 2010, this year’s results include the first six months of 2011, as well.

    STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — The IBM Retail User Group announced that it has named Ron Ferri of Giant Eagle as its new president at its recent board of directors and 35th Annual Conference planning meeting in Las Vegas, Oct. 13 to 15. 

  • IBM Retail Group names new president

    Strongsville, Ohio -- The IBM Retail User Group has named Giant Eagle veteran Ron Ferri as its new president. The announcement was named at the group’s recent board of directors and 35th Annual Conference planning meeting in Las Vegas.

    Ferri, a business process consultant with the supermarket chain, has participated in the IBM Retail Users Group for 12 years.
     

  • Fresh & Easy to host holiday food drive in November

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy will kick off its annual in-store holiday food drive across all of its stores next month in honor of National Food Bank Week.

    From mid-November trough Dec. 31, customers can donate canned and boxed goods in specially designated boxes at Fresh & Easy stores in Arizona, California and Nevada.

    Last holiday season, the retailer and its customers donated more than $1 million in food to local food banks and charities.

    Crossmark and FLW Outdoors announced a new joint venture called Out Front Marketing and have already signed on Walmart as a client to use the firm’s “Mobile Brand Boxes” to promote Walmart’s USDA Premium Beef program.

  • Lee Scott talks beer and has Las Vegas buzzing

    Former Walmart president and CEO Lee Scott was a keynote speaker earlier this week at the National Beer Wholesalers Association’s 74th annual convention and trade show at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

    Promotional materials billed his appearance as an exciting opportunity to hear about the leadership, innovation and business strategies that led Walmart to be such a successful retailer and noted that Scott would also participate in a candid question and answer forum where distributors would have the opportunity to ask some tough questions.
