  • L.A. gets same day grocery delivery

    Instacart said it launched its same day grocery delivery service in the Los Angeles area this week as part of a nationwide rollout to urban markets.

    In late March, the company began offering its service in the New York area. Instacart employs a crowd-sourced business model which matches grocery orders with personal shoppers who deliver products using their own vehicles in as little as one hour.

  • 360pi names new VP customer value

    Ottawa, Canada -- Greg Soussloff has joined 360pi as VP of customer value. Soussloff brings 20 years of sales and sales management experience to this role.

    Prior to joining 360pi, Greg was the U.S. senior director for retail and consumer goods for SAS’ Americas division, where he helped in securing enterprise agreements with retailers and consumer goods companies including Macy’s, eBay, Nike, Kellogg, Wal-Mart and Nestle. Soussloff will be located in Dallas, as part of 360pi’s U.S. presence.

    Oak Brook, Ill. — Inland Real Estate Corporation has announced the acquisition of Mokena Marketplace in Mokena, Ill., an affluent suburb located within the Chicago metropolitan area for $13.7 million in cash.

  • Target to open store in Westwood, Mass.

    Minneapolis -- Target announced plans to open a store in Westwood, Mass., opening in March 2015.

    The 135,000-sq.-ft. store will be part of the new University Station development. It will be the 26th Target store in the Boston area.

  • Drug store veteran Robert Long passes away

    Robert M. Long, former president, CEO and chairman of Longs Drug Stores passed away March 27 due to complications, which occurred as a result of inclusion body myositis.  

    Long was a well-known industry veteran having led Longs Drug Stores for more than 20 years. His retirement from the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based pharmacy retailer as CEO in 2000 marked the first time that a member of the founding family was not heading the company.

  • Aldi buys site for Southern California headquarters/DC

    New York -- Discount supermarket operator Aldi has acquired a 55-acre site in Moreno Valley, Calif., on which it will build its Southern California regional headquarters. The planned 800,000-sq.-ft. facility would serve as Aldi’s West Coast regional office and distribution center as it looks to expand into the Southern California market.

    In December, Aldi announced plans to open 650 stores in the United States during the next five years.
