  • NewMark Merrill awarded best 2013 retail project in Los Angeles

    Baldwin Park, Calif. The Los Angeles Business Journal has awarded NewMark Merrill Companies the Gold level “Best 2013 Retail Project in Los Angeles” for Park Plaza on Maine in Baldwin Park, Calif.

    NewMark Merrill carried out a major $2.5 million renovation on the 165,000-sq.-ft. shopping center.

  • Weather Trends: April 2014

    WTI expects April 2014 to trend the coldest in five years and drier than last year for the U.S. as a whole. Warmer year-on-year temperature trends in the Central states will be sandwiched in between colder trends on the East and West coasts. A more active severe weather season than last year in the South Central states can be expected, especially across parts of Texas and Oklahoma. Storm cleanup supplies and plastic sheeting will see increased demand in harder hit areas.

  • Loblaw’s acquisition of Shoppers Drug Mart is complete

    It’s official. Loblaw has completed its acquisition of Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation, which is now a separate operating division of Loblaw.

  • No more bidders for Safeway as ‘go shop’ period expires

    Pleasanton, Calif. – Safeway Inc. on Friday said that no other bidders have emerged during the 21-day “go-shop” period following the announcement of its agreement to be acquired by AB Acquisition, the parent of Albertsons.

    Under the definitive merger agreement, Safeway and its representatives were permitted to solicit and engage in negotiations with respect to alternative acquisition proposals during the 21-day period that ended on March 27 (the "go-shop" period).

  • Fridley Market renovation will finish in September

    Westmont, Ill. — Tri-Land Properties has announced that it expects to complete a $21 million renovation of its 20-acre Fridley Market community center by September. Fridley Market is located at the intersection of I-694 and University Avenue, the main north/south spine through Minneapolis-St. Paul.

    The renovation of the 165,000-sq.-ft. center includes building, infrastructure, lighting and pavement improvements as well as new construction.

  • H&M to open two new retail formats in U.S.

    New York -- Swedish fast-fashion retailer H&M said on Thursday it will debut two of its newer retail formats, COS and & Other Stories, in the United States this year.

    H&M will open its first COS U.S. location this April in New York City’s SoHo area. A second U.S. store will open later this year, in Beverly Hills, Calif.

    The retailer’s & Other Stories banner will make its U.S. debut this fall, opening a store in downtown Manhattan.

  • Conn’s has convincing Q4; plans 15-20 stores

    The Woodlands, Texas – Conn’s Inc. reported net income of $27.73 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, up 57% from $17.66 million in the same quarter the prior fiscal year. The retailer intends to open 15 to 20 new stores during fiscal 2015.

    Net sales grew 45% to $301.63 million from $250.34 million, and same-store sales increase 33.4%. Conn’s said significant sales growth was reported across all major product categories during the quarter, and the company opened six new stores in that time.

  • Francesca’s, Maurices and Five Below expanding

    New York -- Francesca’s, Maurices and tween/teen fave Five Below are in an expansion mode.

    Francesca’s, based in Houston, will open about 85 stores this year, down slightly from 91 openings last year.
